Appearantly illoai calls yordles spirits when interacting with one.

Despite her quote, I don't think yordles are actual spirits.

They did evolve from fae creatures and Pix doesn't seem completely physical, so that might be why she refers to them as spirits.

I remember that I read somewhere there is going to be a lore update for yordle and it would include that Yordle actually are some kind of spirit representing ideals.

Kled is the last yordle we got and he would fit that theme actually. He is representing the ideal of a reckless noxian Soldier on the battlefield. Never giving up, never giving a f*ck. Just charge at the enemy and kill as many as possible. And claiming the land he is walking on.

If they are really doing this... it could work actually.

Look at Heimerdinger vs. Ziggs. One is representing the ideal of a scientist developing stuff for people to make their life better (his lore is giving examples of inventions he made for other champions), meanwhile Ziggs is the mad scientist, who is using his knowledge to get great power.

Poppy..... I don't really have to explain her, right? xD If it turns out to be like that, I would like it. ^^

Seems a little odd if they mean turning them into literal spirits especially since they spent so long defining yordles as a unique race. I'm not sure what I'd think about that.
