Generally, this is a very bad idea. If you're playing with a team who you don't think will cooperate with your split-pushing strategy, the onus is on you not to split-push and put your team in a bad spot. Cohesive team-work is much much MUCH more important than your plan. Because your plan is useless if your team doesn't go along with it, no matter how good it is.
I have seen WAY WAY more games lost because one player wants to split push when the rest of the team wants to group, than I have seen won by someone deciding to split-push at the right time. Even worse though, there are a plethora of items and abilities in the game that allow a player or team to force engages. Hell, some champions have that as pretty much their entire jobs. In effect, your team cannot always choose not to engage.
The best part is when after they die they go "wtf are you doing jax group this meaningless section of the jungle while dragon and baron are down is very important and we must fight for it."
Why not just team fight if your fed. You should win the teamfight easily.

Look, I solod baron at 20 min as an aatrox with Gunblade, Rageblade and Sated. Thats a bit better IMO
Many champs can solo baron at 17 with that and sometimes less.
and then they be like "report jax for not helping team" this happens WAY too much to me.
xin zhao can solo baron at the 20 min mark, with and come out FULL HP.
he can also solo tank the nexus towers, without any armor but not at the 20 min mark.
Try it in a bot game if you guys don't believe me.
The feeling when it's tryndamere vs tryndamere top and you manage a solo inhib at 15 minutes.
One of my most memorable Jax games was one of those drawn out 50 minute games. We were all pushing mid lane and got the inhibitor. I pinged my team to attack top lanes inhibitor and started thumping away at it with my lantern...
