#But did it land heads or tails?!

At this point I don't know if there's anything left of the coin...

Considering the physics of the railgun (electromagnetic forces launch small objects at incredibly high speeds. Small objects at higher speeds contain greater force than a larger object at lower speeds), the coin is most likely obliterated.

Actually what matters is if the car lands heads or tails

That was her goal, to flip the car

Why bet on a coin when you can bet on a car?

Cosnirak4 votes

The car lands upside down (I've seen the show), call that whatever you want. :)

Its remarkable how the car isn't damaged at all when the coin hit. I mean the coin hit the car dead center on the front. Again anime physics amazes me.

SpecterVonBaren3 votes

I'm inclined to believe she wasn't even aiming for the car and it was the sonic boom of the coin that caused it to launch into the air.

It would have been seriously damaged, certainly, unless it hit the ground right in front.

Seriously...I just love this anime because of the "Railgun" part of it. Knowing even the fundamentals of the railgun physics is amazing.

(My knowledge of physics is limited, but I do feel I am explaining this correctly)

The reason why such a small object (the coin) does so much damage is because of how speed increases the force applied by the object.

Say you have two of the same object moving at different speeds, one at 30mph and another at 60 mph. The object moving at 60 mph actually has 4 times the force as the object moving at 30 mph. Since it is significantly easier to propel a smaller object at higher speeds, you can achieve even greater force by the velocity alone. Due to "Equal and opposite reaction", the object is often destroyed, however, rendering the likelihood of the coins survival almost null.

Why does everyone keep calling that method of acceleration a railgun?! It is rapidly becoming one of my anime pet peeves because that is not how a railgun works. A railgun works by running an intense current through a pair of rails, connected by a sliding connector. The current creates a magnetic field which then propels the connector down the rail.

Now, unless the girl is running a current through her thumb, the coin, and her index finger, then what she's doing is not a railgun. Hell, it's not even a coilgun.

Well, she is running a current through her hand. She's able to control electricity, and to such a degree that she is considered one of the highest levels of "espers" (people who have superhuman powers)

Biffolo4 votes

That's actually pretty incredibly close to what she is doing.

That's pretty much what she is doing.

Sulghunter2 votes

Well then, I always though that she was just flicking the coin with her thumb, with the coin never making physical contact with her index finger

BoundaryBreaker1 votes

Nope, extreme control over electricity, as stated before XD

Criomhthann3 votes

The coin would be obliterated. If memory serves, the range of Misaka's attack in A Certain Scientific Railgun is stated to be about 50 meters with the coin, and the coin doesn't survive past that point (though in reality it would probably be shorter; nickel just isn't as suited to be fired in the same way as depleted uranium or tungsten based alloys).

Yes that's basically what happens when I'm fed with Xerath or Varus mid xD

Upvote for accuracy

DrCyanide7 votes

See, when I'm a fed Xerath, the car doesn't come flying at me in one shiny piece. It just kinda smolders where it was and waits to respawn.

What's this from anyway?

doombotMECHA2 votes

it's pretty good, with an interesting setting...just dont expect too much out of the characterization.

????????? The characters are one of the biggest reason Index and Railgun was so good.

What you don't know is that I didn't even hit the car ;P

One Punch Man is still better.

OPM is saving anime one episode at a time. It doesn't even have that big of a budget like the animators are just THAT passionate about this series and it looks FUCKING GORGEOUS

Rrett1 votes

well actually the base quality for the manga art is just insanely high and they had to match it.

I think it's a running joke for the mangaka. He often times draws everyone with such amazing detail, and then you have saitama who is drawn the same as in the original one punch man.

They copied that joke over into the anime as well, but the mangaka thought of it, which was bloody brilliant.

I Miss Cannon1 votes

One Punch Mans Animation is overrated.

B1naryB0t1 votes

Seeing as how the animation is actually really low budget, it's pretty good. Like right now, the reason they ended the season is that they've run out of it.

One of the best anime's I ever purchased.

I'd say it's good, but it does have some strange moments...

it's references to sexuality, but it isn't even ecchi, it's just there...

Not really...as I said, it isn't even much of humor...

It's hard to explain. It's vaguely referring to it, but in a way that isn't particularly funny or spontaneous.
