Let me fix Sightstone.

item 1028 + item 2049 = 1550 gp, and gives 360hp + passive (wards). When games reach full-build times, we supports feel critically hindered by this T2 level of item stats that we are forced to lug around. The slot is effective for a team point-of-view. Someone needs to go beyond trinket warding in order to actually be map aware, but it still feels like we are missing out on an entire item slot as supports because a tank would have a warmogs, or an adc with BotRK or an apc with hourglass, etc. This thing is great as a team asset, but is still a support must. As has been mentioned many time before, Warding is a team effort. That said, I have a few different suggestions to get the ball rolling on how to fix it, or at least make it not so single-role-oriented. We supports would love to be able to help more in combat, you know?

A) Change Sightstone pathing/stats. item 1028 is ok, but a lot of supports feel trapped getting it because its kind of high cost considering they don't want to be the target of battle to begin with. Tanky supports benefit okay with it for extended pokes or all-ins, but ap or true-sup bots like sona/lux benifit very little from the health. It feels like we are buying an item we don't need because we need the base to combine into sightstone. So, for a change approach, I propose a new combination as the base because it should feel useful to almost every support in a way that allows less grind bot-lane and more interaction. The new proposal is item 1028 (475) + item 1004 (180) + (295 Combine) = [950] item 2049 , giving both 180hp and 3mp/5. Now it doesn't feel quite as useless in combat-terms for us supports and building it is a whole lot less frustrating because we dont have to sacrifice half our laning phase just saving up for it. Now move on to Ruby Sightstone item 2045 . This thing just makes my skin crawl lategame with how horrid the combat-value is. Without further rage, item 2049 (950) + item 3067 (850) + item 3070 (700) + (700 combine) = [3200]item 2045 for +380hp, 250mp, 10mp/5, 10%cd, and the ruby's passive + tear's passive. While not a huge step up compared to other top teir items lategame, the stats boost in CD and MP5 specifically allow more cushion to other item choices for ap/true-sup and the flat mana helps those all-in type, and building it early becomes as influential as building other cost-relevant items. For example, item 3158 + item 2045 + item 3065 = 25%cd normally, but now mr Thresh can go item 3111 instead and have 20%cd, allowing a 20% or 2 10% cd items to waste less from capping. Soraka can build item 3111 item 2045 item 3065 item 3110 item 3116 item 3151 or something similar because the sightstone gives enough mana to sustain her (greed mana hungry banana thrower).

But heres and idea for it I would absolutely love to see. Get rid of sightstone. Put it on boots. item 1001 (325) + item 1004 (180) + combine(470) = 1000, like the standard T2 boots. Give standard MS 45 and a sightstone passive with 2 charges max. I say 2 because it would be a very viable option for any laner or jgl to get these boots as well, in combination with a red/blue trinket instead of staple yellows everywhere. By using fairy as a base, we free up some early gp and because boots are a part of the base, we don't have to make that horrid choice that sometimes comes up between boots or a finished sightstone. Ideally, vision should be mostly a team effort, but likewise, it should be a choice. The reason I find boots to be a good option is because other roles can choose vision (aka safety) over the other boots' benifits at a somewhat comparable rate. Junglers especially can make good use of a 2-charge ward item that doesn't take a needed slot. It creates more inter-play for counter-jungling Amumu (amumu's shutdown), Shaco (shaco's specialty), LeeSin (lee's free ward dashes), or it can be used for dragon/mid's 2nd bush/bot brush, etc etc. The benifit could easily outweigh item 3117 or item 3111 from that alone. Mid lane might want to grab it over item 3020 simply so they dont need to buy wards every trip (or just leave brush unwarded), allowing them to push when they are winning more than they do now.

Agreed that Sightstone's recepie could be changed for non-tank supports (Sona doesn't benefit from it nearly as much as Leona or Taric), highly disagere that it should be on boots. You're right, ward-boots would easily outweigh the benefits of item 3117 but remember that it's being nerfed because it outweighs everything else if you can make it work, so having something MORE overpowering than that (combining ward-bots with trinkets) would make life even more difficult for junglers that can't come from odd angles or cover massive amounts of ground insanely quickly (Udyr "don't kill me, bro").
