Probably one of the most asked questions, but advice for ranked (placement matches)?

Hello League community, I'm somewhat new to this game. I've been playing for a couple months now, and I reached level 30 yesterday. I'm happy to have gotten this far, though I understand things are much different now because of it. I can't necessarily use the "I'm new to this game" or noob card anymore. Anyways, I have questions regarding ranked. To be honest I want to dive into it, though my friends have told me horror stories of elo hell and unlucky placement matches. I am sort of afraid to play ranked, of course I know it's only a game, but I don't want to end up somewhere that makes me depressed and frustrated with my skill. Though I deserve whatever rank I get, I want to be somewhere I can be proud of. My favorite role is top, and recently I picked up volibear. I'm not a close-minded person though, and I know I will get no where in ranked if I can be exceptional in one lane only. I can play ADC (twitch is the man), not a fantastic mid, I'm a poor jungler, and I'm very new to support (picked up thresh because he was on sale). I'm probably going to wait until I can play any role, but I wanted the opinions of the community, is it better to just play ranked now or wait until I have more wins? I'm having a hard time making a decision, I won't punch a hole in my wall if I get bronze 5, but I'll also be less inclined to play and probably lose motivation to try to climb if this happens. I have 134 wins (I think, somewhere in that area) and some in twisted treeline and Aram. My silver 2 friends say wait until 200-300 wins to play ranked. All thoughts, opinions, and comments are all greatly appreciated, the more I learn about the game the better :) If you want to add me my name is Freaktellectual.
