I personally think that the default graphics should be set to "very low" to supposed increased performance for players who just installed the game, as medium graphics sometimes cause a delay in the summoner's first game (which happened to me on PBE) , resulting in leaving the game multiple times in an attempt to reconnect.
Gragh I voted wrong XD But yeah, I remembered when I got into PBE too; my rig can't handle the good graphics :( It's frustrating. Better to start lower and go to options to go up
For me, whenever I change the graphic settings, it freezes for 10-30 seconds and then comes back. Gets annoying if you are in the middle of a game.

Yeah, it's not a bad idea. Another possible solution would be to allow players to adjust their in-game settings without entering a game. That would also be useful for changing hotkeys etc without taking time out of a game.
We could do this... or they could optimize the game... one of the two.
If you have a good computer graphics shouldn't be the problem.
