Have Riven's Shield (E) Duration Scale with Skill Points (instead of current PBE changes)

The current PBE Riven reflects an effort on Riot's part to take away some of Riven's innate power, as they did with the previous set of nerfs (less AD overall, lower shield duration, etc), and make her success more dependent on decision making while allowing for counter-play.

My suggestion for their efforts to make her more dependent on absorbing damage with shield then is, instead of buffing her innate power of damage able to be absorbed, let that power come with a decision on the player's part to put early points in the Shield at the expense of the damage boost from scaling Broken Wings (Q).

The Shield would not absorb any more damage than it does on live, but by sacrificing some damage (from leveling Q), it can let Riven trade more wisely with champion's whose damage is more spread out over time such that by scaling E as it is on Live now, that extra power isn't lost simply because it doesn't give enough time for the enemy to break the Shield (Bruiser abilities such as Garen's Judgment come to mind).

the tl;dr logic here is: *Riot wants to take away Riven's innate power in favor of rewarding her for wise trades with Shield *Riot plans to do this by buffing innate Shield power; I think this is counter-intuitive *Instead, let the player decide when he needs the Shield's power by increasing its duration incrementally as it is skilled early, but without buffing damage absorbed *At the expense of Broken Wings damage, this would let Riven trade with Shield in lane against champions whose damage doesn't break the maxed Shield because of its duration

I justify that last statement with the idea that early skill-points in E enjoy marginally less benefit because, while they allow for Riven to absorb a lot of damage by sacrificing some damage dealt, they are often wasted because of how long it takes for the stronger Shield to break against champions who aren't particularly bursty.

I know many of you probably aren't fans of Riven, but I don't think what I'm suggesting is much of a buff to her early game at all. I think it's a change that addresses Riots goals for Riven, but puts much more of the onus of Shield trading on the player. And the point of counter-play is obvious - Riven would do much less damage in lane.

Thoughts?

The idea itself wouldn't be bad if it didn't bring us right back to the original problem, which was Riven's ability to spam her shield late game as well and get off massive amounts of damage while taking relatively little return.

I second this but instead when her E reaches rank 4 and 5 the shield last 2 second as opposed to the 1.5 seconds once again making it reliable rather than so save your from the second last tick of ignite then just to die from the last tick

This is not a bad idea, but my only worry I feel like this will be not nearly as intuitive, sure people will acclimate but depending on how noticeable the duration increases are it could mean a different laning mindset for every level of her shield. For pros, no big deal, for new-mid level players that would be frustrating.

i have always thought that nerfing the duration to a constant 1.5s was counterintuitive to the early game nerfs. It was a nerf throughout her whole game. Currently she has trouble closing out games (yes shield is stronger) but duration is a huge issue.
