the whole point of playing ranked in preseason is to set you up a good mmr for next season placement matches.

soft reset is something like: (your current mmr + 1200) / 2 = new mmr for next season placement matches.

so yes this gives people a good chance on being placed into gold if they do well in their placements.

pretty much what he said. except if you're asking if they can acquire the S3 rewards for getting into gold. in which case the answer is no.

So if someone did well in preseason and loses a lot in the actually season 4 they will be demoted?

with the changes to the League system as far as I know of, yes you can get demoted during S4 (as in you can drop tiers now as well as divisions if you keep on losing).

Preseason is basically the time for you to 1) learn all the changes and 2) get your mmr at a decent spot so that when you decide to hop into ranked for S4 you will have the opportunity to get placed in a tier higher than you currently are/were.

So for example if i wanted to reach gold i could lower my mmr and get easy games and since i got a lot of wins (easy) i would get to it? <not actually what i gonna do cause i want a challenge

hmmm possibly, you have to remember that you will then get matched up against lower mmr players which may then cause you not to move up enough during your placements. Like you will start off fighting low mmr people, win a game or two, fight slightly higher mmr and so on. If instead you start out with a decent mmr you will fight people of that mmr, win a game or two fight people of higher mmr and if you do well you will get placed much higher.
