Problems in top lane...

Hi everyone.

So lately I've been having a difficult time in the top lane facing early aggressive champs and lane bullies like Renekton, Jax, and Darius, and unfortunately I see them in games all the time. I realize they aren't necessarily over powered, but they typically zone me out hard and I can't really fight back against them. Any advice for a silver 4 noob?

Any tips are appreciated.

If I was you, I'd list your favorite top champions, since it may help us give tips (for instance, my main tops are Poppy and Karma, so most tips applies differently).

Otherwise, like Large said, Darius is by far the easiest for most champs (anyone with a movement spell has a really easy time against him, and so does other bullies like Darius). The main points I suggest to you for this matchup :

  1. If you can afford to do so, pressure the lane at level 1. If you manage to hit level 2 2-3 minions before him, you can really set him back hard.
  2. Easier said than done, but dodge those Q spins.
  3. Ask for jungle pressure to snowball ahead of hm pre-6.
  4. If any of the previous 3 fails, fall back to point #4 : Farm under turret. Unless he has already snowballed, you should be able to get ~5 minions per waves, meaning he won't pull much ahead.
  5. End your laning as fast as posible if you're behind. Whenever I'm against a Darius that we're past 10-15 minutes and I'm losing, I will roam/teleport mid and shove 1-2 turrets + dragon. Sure, he'll get a bit of free farm and probably a tower, but if you get more than that you won your trade, and if you don't you can still outscale him in teamfights (in most cases).

For Jax/Renekton, they're simply very strong, so basically, try to trade damages only when you have 5+ more minions than he has, the damage really adds up. Also they're 2 extreme bullies in lane and a tad weaker in teamfights, so against all 3, I would suggest you to actually peel for the carris if their top is trying to dive. He can't 1v2 you ever unless either of you is terribad, and as long as the last 3 aren't totally stupid to go into a 3v4, the ywill stall the fight and their top will get chunked heavily.

I've played a lot of top lane, and honestly its hard to beat these champions. Darius is the weakest of those and just ask for early jungle pressure, and play some who can harass Darius down early, and avoid his pull. Against Renekton or Jax I say pick what they didn't. If the didn't pick Renekton pick Jax, and in this case its more of a skill match up then anything else.

Thanks for the input. Seems like everyone has trouble with them then. XD

Get gear for outlasting them. +armor +magic resist. if you can chop them down little by little, they'll be more likely to fall or run off till help comes by.

They just push hard to knock you off your perch and gain the upper hand through zone intimidation. Stay close to your minions, and drop as much hell on the bullies till you need to disengage.

don't let yourself get intimidated. Even a squishy support can drop a fool if they've got guts and a little tenacity.

Remember, they're the ones pushing you, YOU get to decide how/where to bait them into your own killzone.

Mobility is a key aspect against these types.

Your jungler needs to gank for you more often. You need to play safe and if needed, just farm under turret. To do so: 1 tower hit on a ranged creep and then you hit it you get the cs. 2 tower hits for a melee creep then a hit by you and you get the cs.

You may want to play to counter, get out of your comfort zone a bit and play other champs that work against them, if you want to see some good matchups Championselect.com is what I use occassionally to see what counters I could use.

If you pink river your jungler can constantly gank or clear the ward for you if your at turret.

Just a few suggestions from a bronze 2 :P

Against champs like that who rely on early wins and ability wombo combos I tend to like Garen. His passive is great for enemies that rely on all ins rather than harass, he outlasts Jax and Darius with no mana, and his silence and spin (which works through cc) allows him to trade with them. Pop his W when they all in, silence their face and make sure you're spinning when they cc you and you're golden.
