Question: How do you not get caught by a hard dive comp?

I was playing cait and had about 11 kills and 5 deaths but after the ~30 minute mark they were getting really tanky. (Our comp: Voli, Cait, Zyra, Lee, and Liss) (Their: Akali, Poppy, Corki, Amumu, and Vi) They repeatedly engaged onto me with the VI ult followed with mumu ult, akali, etc. Our volibear was pretty tanky as well but couldn't stop the engages. What items should I have bought to help me? (I had already infinity edge, phantom. berserker. lw, blood, and was about to finish building GA) What should i have done to kite them?

Their team is just way better than your team lategame. Amumu and Poppy are lategame beasts with terrible early games. To win, your team neded to siege towers in the early and midgame to keep them from getting to any sort of playable lategame.

Now, more generally, playing the AD carry against a hard dive comp, you want to buy a defensive item earlier. Exactly which one to get is a tricky call, but a dead carry deals no damage.

Most of what to do is position safely. It's basically impossible to stand far enough back to prevent Vi from getting on you; that's pretty much her thing. However, it is possible to stand far enough back that the rest of their team has to burn abilities to follow up Vi's dive. Against a hard dive comp, you don't need to think about doing much damage in the teamfight until after some abilities have been burned on both sides.

Without watching a replay, it is hard to give specific advice about how to position more efficiently. I can only recommend that you watch word class ADCs and try to emulate what they do.

You needed some AOE slows on them.

my personal favorites are Twin souls, and ice blade (the one with AOE slow) with a good pair of +resist booties.

Get a lot of +dmg and +resist, you should be okay. don't forget the attack potions either.
