Posted this on the main forum but I don't know if it is going to be here so I'm posting it again. Please don't yell at me.

Here's an except from a view on Vel'koz, tell me if it's any good.

Unlike last time where I talked about basic play, this time I would like to bring in the numbers to help unskilled players get a feel of how mechanics work in the game. Mechanics is the idea that a player can measure kill potential of his opponent as well as do a quick cost benefit analysis with regards to farm in order to pick up the advantage of the game. For comparison we shall be looking at Xerath as well since he is the only other super long range caster. Xerath hasn’t seen much competitive play so we shall also be talking about why Xerath falls flat after his rework and how Vel’Koz fixes some of his problems. I will only talk about his abilities with regards to quirks a player should be aware of. For more information you can check out the champion spotlight here. To simplify our model we will be looking at a the damage of a single combo with no items(assuming level 2 in all skills and 1 point in Ult), how often a combo can be used, and the increase of damage with increased AP. Vel’koz with a w-e-w-r combo can dish out 50(Initial w)+100(e)+75(Detonation w)+50(Initial 2nd w)+500(r assuming no jukes)+105*3= 990 magic damage assuming no magic resist(which isn’t true since every champion starts out with 30). Xerath with a w-e-q-r combo can dish out 90(w)+110(e)+120(q)+570(r)=890 Now considering the average champion has approx. 921 health at level 7 and 30 magic resist, it is clearly obvious that Vel’koz has the upper hand and could one shot an enemy champion with a single combo. That being said, we can’t assume every ability will hit, and so let’s take a look at damage over a period of time. Vel’koz can consistently do 690 damage every 20 seconds (arbitrarily including farming and infinite mana) while Xerath can do 640 damage every 20 seconds. So what is it that makes Vel’koz better than Xerath? Vel’koz’s abilities are designed to combo into each other allowing him to flow with his damage and therefore giving him higher poke. Xerath’s abilities don’t flow as well, and so his poke is easier to juke. Vel’koz’s AP increases his magic damage out put by 3.775 per point per 20 seconds while Xerath’s AP increased his magic damage output by 5.50 per point per 20 seconds. This leads to Xerath having a clear advantage at later stages of the game although his beginning is a bit weaker.
