Kha'zix Ideas

So basically I don't think that Kha is in a very good place. He is far too tanky for having so much damage. He's supposed to be an assassin, sort of like Yasuo. Yasuo can initiate but he will almost certainly die immediately if the team focuses well. However, Kha faces no such issue. He dives in then gets to go invis and ignore the other team as he runs to their backline. There he proceeds to kill people with high base damages while usually building tanky enough to survive with good use of his ultimate. Or even poor use of his ultimate. So here are a few of my ideas.

  • First, Riot should give Kha more damage. I know that seems counter-intuitive but hear me out. By giving him a very healthy scaling ratio on his abilities (not high base damage) Riot could then remove some of his tankyness/base damage. The idea would be to make him weaker if he built tanky. He would have a choice between going tanky, or going assassin. The main barrier here for me is that he might reach a point where he could blow anyone up with no counterplay. IE: Leblanc or pre-nerf Rengar.

  • The other option to refine his assassin role would be to rework his ult. On one hand, his ult is not overpowered. In my mind it is much like Vayne's, only she needs another skill to work the same effect. He disappears, repositions, then comes back with an empowered attack. This is a good ability for keeping an assassin alive and allowing him to run through fights. However, he has too much. His escape should be almost completely solved with his evolved jump. That is the quintessential assassin skill. He dives in, gets a kill, and gets out. Or else he doesn't make it out. Do his job or die, simple. With his ult he gains too much survivability and utility. I can't think of a way around having it though, so I suggest removing the damage reduction and changing it to AoE damage reduction. This would allow him to be countered by a well used Oracle's Lens. As it is, even if people see him, they have to pour twice as much damage into him to finish him off.

  • If Riot does not want him as an assassin and they prefer a fighter build, they need to remove the %MissingHP from his kit. Perhaps they could give him %MaxHP instead. This would make him more likely to initiate fights and more likely to be a semi-tank fighter. This path seems unlikely and I would not it like at all. He is thematically an assassin bug who jumps around, kills things, and evolves.

I would also like to put in my two cents on his evolutions. There should not be a right and wrong way to evolve him. What this stems out of is basically just a lack of power in his W. His Q gives %MissingHP which is a must for assassinating people. His E gives a cooldown refresh which is necessary for his theme of jumping around. He needs it to get out after doing his job well. R just gives him a ridiculous amount of dueling potential and teamfight survivability.

  • I already suggested a change to his R which would make it slightly less needed, but would almost certainly still require a point.
  • I think that if he is to be an assassin his Q needs %MissingHP. What if instead of getting that on his evolution, he had it in his base. Then, evolving his Q could proc his passive on hit or be a slow on its own. I don't really know on this one. Evolving it needs to be meaningful but I think his assassin nature should have %MissingHP because it emphasizes that he should be finishing people.
  • His E is in a fairly good spot IMO. However, I would propose one tweak. Change it so that he can gain range with level-ups of his leap. That would allow him to evolve it for resets but he wouldn't actually need it to get in. Currently I feel that his base jump is too small to really jump on opportunities which makes the point evolving it feel like two. One to increase range, one to get resets.
  • Finally his W. The main change that I think of is to make it pass through targets on evolution. Riot has said they want every skill to be viable, but situational. To me, Kha should level up this skill if he is looking for wave clear. As is, it sprays out which is hardly useful when removing a line of minions that is coming right at you. If, instead, if passed through targets, it could provide some of the utility that the spell is supposed to. To make it better, the spell could heal Kha on number of enemies hit, rather than being close. So if he managed to hit multiple champions in a fight, he could heal for a good amount. This would be hard to balance however and I would definitely make it so minions healed for a good amount less than champions. Perhaps minions heal for 1/5 for each after the first, making the heal a double if it hits a full minion wave.

Overall I think that Kha'zix is very nearly at the point that he needs to be. He has a way to jump in, an execute, and a way to jump out. The problems arise when we realize his two skills are what he needs to be an assassin. The others make him so much more. His W heals him during a fight which is ridiculous to me (an assassin should deal a lot of damage and kill his opponent, not need to heal during the fight). His R just provides a ridiculous amount of utility while giving him even more potential to go in or go out and also making him hard to kill.

I don't mean to post saying that he's op, but he definitely provides too much assassin and fighter utility. He needs to be one or the other. Although I like his evolutions, they are the cause of his problems. He needs at least two evolutions (Q and E) to fulfill his role as assassin or else he can't execute and he can't jump in/out. I think he just needs a small tune up to be in a good, balanced spot.

What do you think?

Personally I like most of this as I played Khazix when he first came out. I refunded Renekton to do so, which was back when they didn't spam him in LCS.

He was intended to be an assassin. So the higher scaling/lower base damage is the way to go. And the W thing seems nice. Riot should consider asking the community about the W evolution.
