They overuse the demon arms too much, and it makes the scarecrow feel like he's second fiddle. I want more horror with the scarecrow itself.

Terozu4 votes

It's implied he'll be able to leave scare crows around the map as diversions to fuck with people.

Oleandervine5 votes

That's not the point. Fiddlesticks has always been the scarecrow. The scarecrow now is treated as little more than a costume, and less as the actual champion itself.

Terozu5 votes

Not actually true, Fiddlesticks was always a demon... Thing... Possessing sticks and rags.

We were never sure what he was or what he was doing.

Only that he was... Waiting.

Oleandervine3 votes

Yeah, but he was always presented to us as a possessed effigy. The demon was using the scarecrow body as its own, the same way any soul uses it's fleshy body as its own. Now it's not even that incorporated into the scarecrow. The demon itself is shown disengaging quite a bit from the scarecrow, and it's kind of detracting from the old vision of Fiddlesticks.

Tomoe Gozen1 votes

Old vision of Fiddle was nothing more than a ragged sack of hay trying to pass as scary.

3TWarrior1 votes

how is that any different from a lump of metal that's done to death for common enemies and has no unique vision to it?

you could pass it off as a scarecrow, but why would you make a scarecrow out of scrap metal and give a scare-crow blade hands or a beak?

GelsominoKiller2 votes

I disagree, fiddle has always been some kind of possessed farming tool.

They're just making this aspect explicit with the possessor appearing.

It doesn't change the old theme, it improves on it.

Oleandervine1 votes

Seeing the demon in so many of the animations detracts from Fiddlesticks being a possessed pile of sticks and metal, and puts too much emphasis on the trapped thing inside. It doesn't give enough presence to the scarecrow. The scarecrow, which formerly was the focus of his design, becomes too secondary in my opinion with the overuse of the demon arms doing everything.

I really like the direction they’ve taken him. Now don’t get me wrong I really love the goofy fiddlesticks we have now much like I really liked old gps personality, but I think they’ve chosen an appropriate design direction and are delivering on it really well. I really like the way he twitches around and his movement is very unnatural, like how he kinda comes out of the scarecrow to run like the grudge, he’s much scarier now and I’m really excited about his release already

Wyrmblade3 votes

I love it.

Anihaku2 votes

Definitely looks creepier......but it’s really ugly and awkward so far. : /

Arakadia2 votes

What makes you think it’s ugly and awkward?

What makes you think it’s ugly and awkward?

to be fair, those two things kinda go hand in hand with creepy, even if the dude was using in a derogatory fashion, they still apply in positive aspects as well.

3TWarrior2 votes

I had a similar comment, so i'll throw in my answer

he uses very generic black darkness, his limbs look like pieces of driftwood with blades nailed onto them, in terms of threatening, he hasn't really sold it when he BARELY looks worthy of being a miniboss, let alone one of the league's most feared combatants

everything about him is ripped and tattered and basically looks like a low-level zombie enemy. You could call it "The Ripper" and make it a mildly annoying normal enemy

he even shambles around like a zombie

The original fiddlesticks may not be up to date, but he was a scarecrow that could kill you with a smile on his baggy face

Arakadia4 votes

his limbs look like pieces of driftwood with blades nailed onto them

Well what did you expect from a scarecrow?

let alone one of the league's most feared combatants

Being scary =/= looking physically imposing.

everything about him is ripped and tattered and basically looks like a low-level zombie enemy. You could call it "The Ripper" and make it a mildly annoying normal enemy

I don't agree with this but I think its fair critique.

he even shambles around like a zombie

I think this is the point, but sounds like you don't like it which is also fair.

Daiki Kuroyami2 votes

I will miss Fiddlestick's quote that said "I haven't got a brain and soon neither will you"

Doge20202 votes

I think they are keeping quotes that fit the VGU’s theme/personality. To me, that quote still fits Fiddlesticks’s character so I think they’ll keep it.

3TWarrior2 votes

my main question is...why does he look so ugly? but idk. There have been so many disappointments that I fear for his health after the update

Abibyama II14 votes

That's the point? You expected an abomination to be a hot model or what?

3TWarrior1 votes

no, but I at least expected it to look like someone spent time and effort into making the character

Someone could throw this together in a machine shop in like an hour or so

What's memorable about this? What is there to define his character? If you just make a monster, why would you play it?

Terozu6 votes

Hi is this not horrifying to you?

Did you see his super speed run?

That shit had me saying no and putting my phone down to go wash my hands.

3TWarrior1 votes

nope. like the devs say, it may startle you if you encounter it in the dark, but this thing is not horrifying. Looking at the run animation. Why does he move on all fours when he is bipedal? why does he dig his claws in when he would not get more speed that way?

He's very generic

GreenLore16 votes

The thing is that Fiddle is described as a demon, who is constructing a body to move in, so most of what you see is literally a body thrown together by a demonic being that doesn't care about looking pretty or relateable.

Besides some people like to play as monsters and scary beings, the idea is that you are the monster that will scare your opponents.

3TWarrior1 votes

yeah, but this hardly constitutes scary. Gruesome maybe, but it is generic. He looks like so many low-level enemies that you have to wonder, where is his appeal?

Play Dead Space, you'll kill this guy 100 times over

GreenLore1 votes

Eh I feel like thats a problem with monstrous characters in general, simply because we are so used to slay all kinds of monsters en masse in video games. If something doesn't have a human face, it'll most likely end up looking generic to some extend.

P0IS0N IVY5 votes

Is Aatrox there Chogath any DrMundo reason Hecarim why Zac monsters Maokai aren't Nocturne allowed RekSai in Thresh leagueVelkoz ?

Not everyone has to be a generic Ahri hot Kaisa cat Yuumi girl Nidalee dudes can jack off to.

3TWarrior1 votes

I did not say monsters are bad, I said, why does he look so ugly? He's about as generic as it gets. Try comparing him to Mundo or zac

Seriously, play Dead Space and you'll kill this guy 100x over. You've probably seen him a bunch of times in other undead monstrosities as well

What defines him? Right there, he's just unpolished and looks like he was just made to murder weak people and not to be a lethal weapon forged by a demon to act as his body? Put him against garen, who wins? Garen...he blocks every weapon he has and just mows him down. Darius? The same happens

Nocturne , the guy can kill you in your dreams and is a horrifying phantasm that watches as your outlook on life gets bleaker and more akin to death before he kills you by rending you to death

P0IS0N IVY2 votes

I mean you made it sound like people shouldn't play monsters:

If you just make a monster, why would you play it?

??

Garen...he blocks every weapon he has and just mows him down. Darius? The same happens

I'm not sure why you think physical strength is the only thing that matters.

What do you want a fiddle rework to look like then?

He's not FORGED BY A DEMON, he's simply TRAPPED in there, probably by some ritual like in the previous lore. And your claims are based on thin air. Who says the entity itself isn't powerful enough to rip people to pieces, crack armor or what else? You are looking at the puppet and sayjng "oh yeah that thing is harmless", completely ignoring the monster inside it. We don't have lore, short stories, or anything else, yert you are judging it based on your assumptions.

And as for Nocturne? If you just had to look at his artwork, walk and run and 1 of his ability, would you think he's scary or a real threat? I don't think so, looking at him almost makes me laugh. "Woah bois, generic spooky ghost BUT THIS TIME with armblades is coming at us!" Garen spins his magic sword and kills it

Instead, we know his lore, and he's much more than just that (though he really needs a visual update, he's not scary and his animations are clunky as hell), but who would've said so? It's incredible how lore and a complete champion can help you judge it, don't you think so?

How many times have you played a game and told yourself " I would really like to play as the enemy/monster"? Personally I did that a lot, and a lot of games (Dead By Daylight, Last Year after Dark and even some platformers) prove that people like playing as the mindless killing monster. Heck, how many people love the Demogorgon? He doesn't have much personality, yet people still love him and many other monsters.

This Fiddlesticks is really well done, and all his develomwnt updates prove that they really were into it while redesigning him, I don't think your point really stands taken these factors into account tbh.

3TWarrior1 votes

once, twice maybe? You say that he is really well done, but he looks completely generic. What defines him? The dragging claws (done to death) ? the claw blades on his other hand (probably over a thousand years old and you see it EVERYWHERE despite it being not very efficient) ?

how about his pointed beak face with red eyes?

it's generic...very generic. Even the tongue thing...

Its base is that he's a scarecrow, even if he doesn't look much like one, so he doesn't really need to be that memorable in his appearance, even though it looks cool as heck, maybe not a super new concept, but one never seen this way in League. What's memorable about him is that he's THE horror creature in League of Legends, he's the crawling monster you hear tales about, he's the boogie man of this universe. Not everyone is memorable by their appearance, in fact I dare to say that a lot of LoL champions are pretty generic even after reworks/VU (Garen Mordekaiser Ahri Akali Sion Ryze Trundle), but you remember them because of how they interact in the world of runeterra and for their in-game features, or quotes, or uniqueness in the game itself. Heck who would remember Garen if not for the spinning meme? He's just a generic Paladin (now they are giving him some attention in the Lore as well, at least). I'm all down to get finally a creepy champion in LoL, and imagine how spooked new players would get from seeing that aberration running at them with its demonic hands coming from the cage. And I know a lot of people are just like me, many of them voiced the need of a really scary champion, and seeing the animations we got he's pretty uncomfortable to see at first glance, it really got my attention. It's the concept, the power fantasy it has that sells it, not only its appearance (which is pretty damn cool to me). So ppease wait at least for the champion to come out, with all its animations, interactions, spells and lore, before deeming it unworthy of praise.

Tomoe Gozen1 votes

The literal definition of his character is: "an ancient demonic and ageless being, whose existence was long forgotten that the stories and warnings about it are so old, they turned into children's stories of an ancient "evil"..."

No voice, organs or a brain (controlled as a puppet by the said entity), the puppet (Fiddlesticks) looks like he's been cobbled haphazardly together by rags, sacks and scraps of sharp and rusty metal, barely held together by the mechanical joints that held those metal limbs, when they were new. It looks like he's entirely going to break if you so much as sneeze at him but aside from the entity holding it together with eldrich dark magic, you don't want to even see this murderous-looking thing to know the truth of that observation.

Not to mention his idle animation with his occasionally twitching head like from the horror movies (when you're not looking at it), with a demonic being holding the lantern to pass as a disguise (and you know this isn't a mechanical part Fiddlesticks) and his almost still-like movements (like a person trying to pass as a mannequin)...

His ult then feeling like whatever entity is inside of this mess, is trying to swallow you whole in one bite, snapping against its small cage and bending the bars just almost enough to break them, metal creaking, whispers, unnatural sounds that can only think they're distorted screams of pure death... You don't know which is more merciful, instant death from this fear or from his R - a massacre that would follow.

Oh, maybe you were expecting a plushie?

3TWarrior1 votes

https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Fiddlesticks#4th

read his previous lore in the patch history. it's a bit haphazard, sure, but they could have just updated things instead of retconning like they do everything for some reason

now suddenly he's a demon wielding a puppet?

The new fiddlestix is generic with almost every aspect of him being done to death elsewhere. What defines this fiddlestix? What will make him memorable? What makes him different from the dozens if not hundreds of other monsters that share his appearance?

Play dead Space and this fiddlestix is literally the first enemy you meet in the game...

Tomoe Gozen1 votes

What makes him different from the dozens if not hundreds of other monsters that share his appearance?

Ah yes, the good old argument of: "There's something like him that exists somewhere". I keep thinking that you want 100% originality and "no copypasta" watermark somewhere on him, which is of course, a silly little "demand" because Riot isn't the only gaming company that exists in the world and this isn't the first game to exist either. Everyone draws insipration from something out there and nothing is 100% original.

Being a plush toy isn't original. Being a dry hay sack isn't original either since Wizard of Oz exists.

3TWarrior1 votes

the original fiddlestix was a scarecrow. He was designed as a scarecrow. Now, they are trying to make something new, which requires originality and character. If the characters have no character or interesting traits, why would you play them?

I made the comment elsewhere that this looks like something someone could slap together in an hour within a machine shop because they wanted to make something neat. That's fine for "neat" but he is now a demon that had intended to create a puppet for itself to manipulate. It would take time and care to create the body that it wants if it would go that far

This looks like a low level minion that every dark force has in its employ...

Don't confuse having standards with desiring that everyone be one in a million. If you put in the minimal work, you are going to be criticized. Yes, he looks "neat" , but how is this character fiddlestix?

When you say things like your response, you sound like the people who literally buy "shapes" as modern artwork... or how about the banana that was duck-taped to a canvas?

MorgManBasher2 votes

Looks fucking sick, as a fiddle player since like season 2 this has me hyped

Hopefully the gameplay is as good as the visuals and I can still play him support or at least as a laner since I haven't been a jungle fiddle player in years

SupërMëwKitty2 votes

I want a general like skin for him so i can say FIDEL STICK CUBA LIBRE

sempaiKush1 votes

when they will give us more details

Arakadia5 votes

They literally just released a dev blog on him and said he will be released a little later this year.

CØulrophobia1 votes

While he looks creepy as fuck, I see two problems which I will voice when he comes to the PBE because chances are, Riot will fix em.

Thilmer1 votes

I like where this is going, except that I don't like the arms coming out of his chest in the speed boost animation. Looks weird.

JisKing981 votes

Visually so far, its ok. not mind blowing great like everyone is saying but its ok. That ult animation looks dope though. I like the dragging of the hand and the limp walking he has.

Troll Slaiyer1 votes

they better keep his old walk cycle

a silly walk on something terrifying is actually kinda scary.
