So i was playing thresh with an enemy Twisted Fate adc i had gotten over 100 armour and mr but he still did a huge amount of damage. Someone give me a simple explanation pls i read the wiki and read comments on other posts and it makes no sense.
What even is armour and mr? Does it actually reduce damage? Do the percent stats in game lie?

Armor reduces physical damage, MR reduces magical damage. Neither reduce true damage. It is a percent reduction, however, there are certain champions, and certain items, that you can use to bypass MR and armor.
Every 100 resists is effectively a second health bar. So if I had 50 armour and 1000 health, I'd effectively have 1500 health against physical damage. If I had 200 armour, I'd effectively have 3000. So yes. It reduces damage.
As to why you were taking a lot, 100+ isn't a whole lot, just enough to make you bulky enough to survive skirmishes. Also, if you were just stacking resists, it's not as efficient as combining resists and health.

so he had his bonus damage from his passive on E on hit damage from bork and rage blade plus what looks like 70% crit chance
thresh built 
giving him +60 armor ,90 mr he didnt have anything to protect him from attack speed dps, damage reduction from ninja tabs and his hp pool was pretty bad only having +950 hp giving him right at 3000hp (depending on runes/masteries)
he dont have enough damage reduction items to be effective vs a on hit crit tf build
also considering 60 armor vs a
with black cleaver , zed with black cleaver ghost bladed and dusk blade. he might of not had any armor..
he took alot of damage based from the armor reduction items in game vs him and didnt build accordingly or correctly
Tanks are pretty useless honestly. Even with these new items they're adding they'll still be useless.
