Dear Riot, my one and only issue with champ select

Okay so from the top. Champ select begins, everyone chooses their pref champ. Banning ensues. Then we go down the list and pick our champs. My preferred champ does not get selected or banned, it's my turn to pick. But I'm busy talking up ladies or getting a glass of water. All I ask is that my champion be locked in for me at the end of the timer instead of me getting kicked and suffering a one billion timer for next game. Even worse is if I actually select a champion and STILL get kicked because I failed to lock it in myself. If someone could explain to me why we do not have auto-lock, that would be great.
