Misunderstanding The Ranked System

I wanted to come here and get some knowledge about how this ranked system works. I'm a little peeved at the moment because I've been duo'ing with a friend for about 8 games (the other two I solo'd). He ended up with a 7 win/3 loss placement and earned Silver 2. I ran a 8 win/2 loss and earned Silver 5?

What other things are considered that made this happen? What other variables are at play when trying to get placement (or rank up)? I feel like Riot did a bad job of making it clear why you were sent where you are and I'm left feeling disappointment.

Any information would be appreciated if you guys can educate me. I really, really, really want the climb the ladder this season; I've been so passive with ranked my whole career. But after this happened I just feel cheated, and kind of lack the motivation to press on.

The ranked system is garbage.

Your performance in the games are taken into account, as well as your previous season, They kind of hid the previous season thing in their long text, SO it could be possible your friend just performed better in his matches.

He mains Jungle so he did have the opportunity to carry some games, whereas I ended up supporting most of mine.

HE is wrong, in game performance does not matter. Do not worry about that.

Placements might also have luck in how you are placed. If you are placed in a bunch of bronze matches you (8) and then only two silver matches (2) it might place you based on when you win or lose. You always win in bronze so they want to put you higher but lose in silver so you are not as high in silver.

I didn't consider categorizing the games as being at a particular rank themselves. Thanks :D

The order win loss of the games effects it. If you lose more earlier your starting MMR(while hidden) would of dropped harder.

It just seems so unnecessarily convoluted. I wonder why it has to be so difficult. Do you have any good advice for ranking up as a fairly casual player?

Ranking someone's skill level is very hard. Play 10 games of chess. Do you think you'll have any idea how good you actually are at it? Hell, even after 50 games, you prolly are just getting the hang of it and wouldn't have a full picture of your skill.

The best advice I can give is don't expect to climb very much unless you can play 200-500 Ranked games in a season. Or unless you are a gold/plat/dia in bronze. However, as long as you are actively trying to learn and improve your play, then you will do fine. Don't blame your teammates and don't type at them; It only makes things worse.

contrary to popular belief the system is not designed to make you fall/fail. It is designed to always challenge you instead. The system keeps putting you in games where the the level is theoretically higher if you win. The system has only one goal and is to find where you belong.

There are anti fail systems put into the rank system. Anti decay for gold and lower & almost impossible to fall out of a div 5.

Tips

Do not buy into the streamer mentality or play style. They are better at the game and do questionable stuff. thinking they are better than everyone else. They can show how to build or some clever stuff but they tend to be greedy & selfish.

Do not worry about how others are playing , worry about how you are playing. You will be the only constant factor in your games.

Carry means to positively effect the game. It does mean not to have the highest kills or most damage. Knowing how to take an objective after your team mate got that triple is just as important.

Contrary to some posts on these forums, Riot is not out to get you. Promotion series can and will suck, They mean more to you than the rest of your team cause your team is not in series. The series are their to keep people from climbing and then falling immediately.

If you can conquer these mental aspects you should do decent. Constant learning and adaption is important.
