LP in AFK Games

AFK players are far more common and have a much more severe impact on games than any negative attitude. Client issues, DC's and rage quitting are going to be a part of the game but I feel the LP system should account for these scenario's and award/remove LP depending on the situation. If a player is AFK on your team from the start you shouldn't lose more than 5LP imo. I don't know what the win rate is in a 4v5 matchup but after working so hard to try and compensate for a missing player only to lose full LP after the match is over is just salt in the wound and I can only imagine helps a player tilt even harder. I'm sure there are a lot of scenario's where people would just rage quit late in a game to salvage LP, but I feel like a system should be put in place that takes into account when a player AKF's and how many points are to be lost. On the same side of things if a team goes on to win a 4v5 the points awarded should be higher than a normal game. The current system is far too stagnant and works against players who still give it their all despite having the deck stacked against them.

You gain full LP when the enemy player is AFK. I don't hear people complain about that. At the end of the day it's even for everyone. Everyone has had an afk on their team before, and everyone has had an afk on the enemy team. It's unfortunate but it does happen from time to time.

That being said it's a lot more rare than you are making it sound, and it only plays a minor impact on your MMR. LP is essentially fluff so the end result is pretty minor.

I take issue with this... it is not even for everyone. I've had FAR more games with a member of my team AFK than I have had with a member of the enemy team AFK.

@OP, I agree. The amount of LP lost in a match in which a teammate was afk from the start should be reduced by at least 50%.

Over a short period it may not be even but over a long period it will be very close to even. If you feel this way you either:

  • are unlucky
  • may cause players on your team to go afk for whatever reason
  • suffer from confirmation bias

Either way, play enough games I promise you it will balance out.

Possible, I'm speaking to my experience this season. The ratio seems 2:1.

Either way, lets say it is 1:1 just for the sake of argument.. It would still put players minds a bit more at ease to reduce the LP lost. When the long irritating game is over you don't have to sit there looking at the 4v5 that resulted in -20LP.

Ok fair, but are you willing to gain half the LP when you win a game with an AFK player on the opposite team?

Personally, yes. But quite frankly, it doesn't matter to me whether the LP on the win gets left alone or halved.

If I played a 4v5 there is practically no chance the team with 4 players is going to win. It doesn't seem to me that a full win credit would be deserved.

However, I'd be perfectly okay with halving the loss LP and leaving the win LP alone.

How many of you have said to yourself when you were on the other side of things "Man if they had 5 players we probably would have lost". I'm all for lessening the amount of LP won and would be ok with only 10+/- points instead of full gain or lost.

As for the LP just being fluff, then why have it in the game? If the mystical MMR overlord means everything just get ride of the LP system altogether. If you dodge in champ select you are taxed minimal LP not a full loss worth which to me seems a lot more of a controlled scenario than a player that never makes it into the game from the loading screen.
