Surrender at 20 Azir Balance Changes
Surrender at 20 states that Azir's passive no longer gives AS for every point in CDR, his W now gives attack speed based on spell rank, his E no longer knocks people up. Here is MY take on these changes, care to share your thoughts?
Passive Thoughts: This will seriously hurt Azirs over all gameplay. The fact that you don't even need to build Attack Speed to deal immense damage is probably one of the few reasons he is even played. This change will probably do a few things:
-
His laning will be hit pretty hard. He can't duel people as well as before early on, this can seriously set him back in a fight against champions like Katarina or Zed, where Azir needs to poke them hard to make sure he doesn't die. He can no longer do as much damage out of lane, since you need to buy attack speed items to keep his old DPS up.
-
His poke is significantly reduced early and is now a pure late game champion, before just getting morellos with some CDR runes was enough to get 30-35% CDR, meaning that by just getting AP, your DPS is a lot higher and your poke hurts a lot more. I think this will reduce his "zone and control" theme as enemies know you can't hit them probably more then once unless you feel like staying and getting caught.
W Thoughts: I think this change is almost useless. ALMOST. Azir has THE LOWEST base attack speed in the game, so 10% added at rank one? Like whats that going to do for you early to mid game? You will still be dealing less DPS than before. I think that if Riot is going to make this change, at least boost Azir's base attack speed to 0.65 or perhaps more. You only get 50% bonus attack speed at max rank, thats essentially the same bonus you get from 40% CDR with the old passive (40 x 1.25 = 50). I can see what riot is doing here, they want to nerf his early game so players can get a chance to deal with this king, but I think that assassins with blinks will shut this guy down harder then they already do. I personally think you literally have to almost tower hug until you max out your W at 13.
E Thoughts: This change, seriously outrages me, more so then the passive nerf. This is Azir's best way of engaging onto an enemy so that you have time to kill them. Imagine this scenario, your opponent is a katarina, your both at 50% hp. If Azir decides to secure the kill by using the standard E - Q - R combo, he can no longer do that, because if his E doesn't knock her up, it gives her time to shunpo behind you, dodging your ultimate, meaning that she can ult for free and you get killed. Now before this change, Azir was able to use his ultimate WHILE the opponent was knocked up, meaning that the kill was secured, but this window of opportunity is gone for the king, and instead of the peasant dying, the king dies instead.
Anyone with perhaps a better understanding of Azir care to enlighten me? I'm only Silver 2.
