HexARAM on Butcher's Bridge: Kill 2 birds with one stone?
I'm a big fan of Hexakill but Riot hasn't brought it back because it would require technical work on the new client to include a 6th player. But when that work is inevitably finished, why not turn Butcher's Bridge into a 12-player 6v6 map? You would be satisfying people who want Hexakill to return and also people who love Butcher's Bridge ARAM. I had this idea for a unique Bounty tab where you are presented with missions specifically for this mode that passively reward those who spend a lot of time playing it.
Missions would include general ones as well as champion-specific ones:
-Bounties for getting kills as a specific champion (ex. 25 kills playing as Gangplank, 'SNIPED!: Get a kill with Jhin's ultimate') -Bounties for specific champions killed (ex. Kill Yasuo 3 times) -Bounties for killing specific champion classes (ex. Kill 10 Assassins, Marksmen, Mages) -Bounties for killing specific factions of champions (ex. 5 Kills on Noxian Champions) -Bounties for killing specific skin lines (ex. 'I OBJECT: Kill a PROJECT champion') -Bounties for general number of kills/assists (ex. 'MAKING A NAME: Rack up 100 total kills', 'LITTLE HELPER: Assist in 200 kills') -Bounties for multi-kills (ex. Achieve 3 Pentakills) -Missions can also include things like 'Complete 10 total Bounties' then 25, 50, 75, 100 etc.
Some missions could be consistent ones that are always available.
New tiers of missions unlock as you complete the general ones as well as for each specific champion. There would be 'Bronze Tier Missions' which every champion starts on, followed by 'Silver Tier Missions' and then 'Gold Tier Missions'. Completing these bounties give Serpents which can be spent on rewards in a pirate-themed shop. They can also be spent to unlock special, perhaps more difficult bounties that will give a unique reward upon completion like a chest or key, emote etc. Depending on the level of mission you complete you get a reward of matching currency (unless a rarer reward is stated instead):
1 Bronze Serpent has a value of 1 1 Silver Serpents could = 5 Bronze Serpents for a value of 5 1 Gold Serpents could = 2 Silver Serpents for a value of 10
Another more rare currency or two could also exist alongside these that can only be traded for certain high-tier rewards.
Serpent Fangs (which look literal) would = 5 Gold Serpents for a value of 50 Serpent Eyes (which would look like rubies) would = 10 Gold Serpents or 2 Serpent Teeth for a value of 100
Unfortunately there is one minor clash/inconsistency about a mode like this. In Hexakill you can traditionally pick your own champion, but in ARAM the point is to be random so I'm more inclined to keep it random. Even the name HexARAM implies it's ARAM. Also Nexus Blitz is shaping up to be a new mode where you are able to pick your champion. One possible idea to tow the line a bit is to be able to set champions as a 'Crew' (you would unlock Crewmember slots by buying them with Serpents), and you can use re-rolls to guarantee getting a member of your pool of Crewmembers. One slight issue is if your teammates already have the champions you've assigned to your crew then it would have to act as a normal re-roll instead. Just like in actual ARAM though, you'd need to play a few games to earn re-rolls back.
My one gripe with 6v6 on Butcher's Bridge is how the orange snowball summoner spell would work here. Maybe a higher cooldown would be appropriate or remove it. It could get confusing and annoying with so many oranges being flung around.
Anyway thanks for reading, a lot of this is just brainstorming. I like the current missions for Summoner's Rift, but sometimes 'Place 3 control wards and win the game' just doesn't do it for me.
edit: I just feel like Butcher's Bridge has not found its "purpose" as a map that sets it truly apart from Howling Abyss and making Hexakill its new home seems like a great fit. Considering the name of the map lol. Riot put a lot of work into BB, the community loves it, and yet it isn't being used at all? One more thing I forgot to bring up is: Would a mode like this outclass regular ARAM and take away from its current playerbase? That is a fair point. Maybe a little bit? Matchmaking time may go up slightly? Maybe Ranked ARAM would exist by this point to help keep an interest in normal ARAMs? Who knows.
