Twisted Treeline & general team ranking-system

Dear Riot,

I would like to know as to how the ranking(elo placing) is justified, especially in team ranks. My friends and I were plat 2 with our team in 3v3 and played our placements in season 6 recently. We got placed in Silver 1, in silver 1 ...with a non loss promotion therefore 5 wins 0 losses. So as we did the best possible i would like to hear a reason for our placement as we , by the very first time we played team ranked 3v3 ,we have been unranked in all queue´s and got placed in silver 1 as well, with a 4 wins 1 lose promtion. So tell me please how the platinum 2 elo influenced our placement when we got the exact same placement as to the time we have been completly unranked and unexperienced with the game.

kind regards

PS: sry for any grammar mistakes

riot doesn't care about a useful elosystem... they are giving away ranks randomly :/

I sympathize with you. The elo system is just ludicrous...

Honestly the Team 3v3 and Team 5v5 (now removed) queues have always had weird matchmaking. Me and a few friends (gold/plat elo last season, currently unranked) did our placements for 3v3, went 4/1 and got Bronze 3. You can't really make sense of the matchmaking for Twisted Treeline.

One of the big problems is that most teams consist of bronze/silver players while there are only a few high elo teams in 3v3, but the ones that do exist completely dominate; there was even win-trading going on last season going on between high elo 3v3 teams. As soon as you get higher than silver, you'll find that you're often up against teams of plats/diamonds even if you're only gold yourself.

What I think happened: Old teams had their MMR hard-reset, but each player's individual MMR just got soft reset. So if you use an old team you get placed based on new MMR, while if you make a new team you get placed based on the sum of your combined individual MMR.

Example: My team was high Diamond 2 last Season. We went 5-0 in placements and ended up in Silver 1. After that we got like 35 LP per game and after a few games we skipped from Silver 1 to Gold 5, and then a few games later from Gold 5 to Gold 3. Next we'll probably skip from Gold 3 to Gold 1, though at this point matchmaking is kind of strange.

So, if you think you got placed too low, you could make a new team. If you're actually at a Silver/Gold level and are bummed about all the former Platinum/Diamond/Master/Challenger players facing you, well... I suppose you could wait for a bit, though statistically you're more likely to face other Gold players than Platinum/Diamond/Master/Challenger, I suppose.

Why did Riot hard reset old teams? I don't know, perhaps to prevent team selling?
