Mordekaiser, once a great, but weird champion, reworked, buffed nerfed, and useless again

Hey everyone, As pretty much all of you will know, Mordekaiser has been a bit of a problem for Riot. They reworked, buffed and nerfed him more times than I can count, now the thing is, as they changed him last season to become an ADC replacement, which I though was a pretty good idea which didnt really work out well, they dug Morde's grave. He was really fun to play when I started playing league, at about S3, when he got reworked however, not only did his playstyle completely change, his solo lane dissapeared, and the made the most immobile champ in league EVEN MORE immobile. Look, I get it, if he can put out a lot of dmg, he shouldnt be able to fly around enemy team, but the thing right now is, that he doesnt do jacksh*t in dmg. The only dmg he has is his 3rd Q, which in all honesty, doesnt really help in TFs. So, for one, he doesnt deal dmg anymore, nor is he able to move around, and ofc you can build him tank, but he would become a tank purely because he cant do anything else than just, stand there and try to soak dmg.

Anyway, I was wondering if I am the only one experiencing this the way I do. If not, or if you do too, please comment.

Thanks for your time and have a good one

I personally think Morde's in a decent spot right now seeing that any change might send him over the edge or send him back into the gutter. His rework did little to give him a balancable kit so he's doomed to mediocrity. But people are exaggerating how "bad" he is, seeing that those who invest some time in learning him can really carry games and have a huge impact with good ol' Morde.

Is he perfect? Hell no Does he require a full VGU down the line? Hell yes Is he as bad as people say he is? No, definitely not

Hmm, I see how many people say he's total garbage, in a solo lane, his laning phase gets close to being so, but, I do agree he has some potential, as when you get a gank, you can really do something for once, yet for example in fights, if they decide to CC you twice, you're a dead Morde. And I know he's kind of on this weird edge, where a little downtune on his dmg, will break him completely, and a little buff, will send him flying, I guess I just miss the way the old Morde could solo lane top, farm and passively poke.

If you want to play Morde as a farming brick Wall try Maxing W. Morde should be left alone for the moment seeing that he needs a full VGU at this point and there are still some people who can make him work. Hell, I'm aiming for Diamond and already reached Plat II playing mostly Morde (top and jungle)

I cannot agree more, max w if you wanna play safe and your in lane sustain is astonishing sometimes, and paired with your passive and ult, you can mitigate TONS of damage and heal in most cases.

I just love the moment when you ult an enemy champ and get the ghost, then with that ghost get dragon and trade up ghosts XD so nice.

Mind if I ask your builds, runes, and masteries? I play Morde jungle to some success, but I can't seem to do well top. Could just be me sucking though.

Malicious Metal2 votes

There are two builds actually, coming down to personal preference. One's a W max that puts a lot of focus on Ap and one I consider a bit less reliable, perhaps it's just my personal bias though.

My preferred build is an E max build that puts a lot of early focus on defense and Morde's Hybrid scaling. My usual build order's something along these lines; item 3116 item 3053 item 3146 item 3742 item 3065

I rock MS quints, ap/level or MR glyphs, 4armor and 5 hp/ level seals and MPen reds. Masteries are also a matter of preference. Be it Stormraiders, DFT or Grasp/SoTA but I prefer Grasp for trading and its synergy with my health based build and its synergy with Gunblade and SV.^^

Ten Cent doesnt care about Mord why should Riot

Chriszzzzz1 votes

Well because I'm sure I'm not the only one who isnt happy with Morde's current state, and as far as I know, Riot is trying to keep us summoners happy ^^

Faith Breaker2 votes

Riot doesn't give the first fuck about us. It's about money, and so long as Riot are Tencent's bitch, it stays that way. Lol you think they care, dude you're adorable

Chriszzzzz1 votes

Well if they lose summoners, they lose clientele, they lose money, so even if they care about money only, they want to keep us happy ;D

They've gotten such a large player base losing 1 or 2, even a couple of thousand of people doesn't bother them. They constantly getting newer and newer players joining League.

Anyhow, Mordekaiser seems boring as hell, looks boring, his kit doesn't seem interesting at all.

I dont know how big Morde's fanbase is, but I think/hope we can amount to something in the eyes of Riot xD. Although I see how you can think Morde is boring, but, he has/had incredible playmaking potential, since his ultimate and E can give him the opportunity to sustain in a fight, and even turn one of the enemies against them. But I do undertand that he can seem a bit boring, right now I wanted to play him mostl out of nostalgia of my S3 time.

See Leoric from HOTS ? Riot should make Mordekaiser like him. More malady and more ghost.

With pendragon ofc. Why not ?

Chriszzzzz1 votes

Havent played HotS lately, will go check him out and see ^^

Torgal1 votes

You will see, it's exactly how I see Mordekaiser.

Chriszzzzz1 votes

Just looked him up, plus his abilities, seems like a pretty nice base for Morde, and I would like to see smth along the lines of dmg decreased on his Q or E but giving him some way of mobility, or a built in slow, just something to catch up with or escape others

I actually just saw Anklespankin' play him recently! I've tried him out also but he doesn't appeal to me as a champion. Personally I don't ever see Morde doing enough damage, maybe I'm playing him wrong? I did want to buy him next though. :-)

Malicious Metal1 votes

If you want to deal damage as Morde you have to invest in some AP/AD and get offensive defensive items like Sterak's and Rylais.

Azrael Jiraco1 votes

Do not use those Anklespankin Morde videos as guides. I've seen them, and I know the difference between a serious game and a fun game.

Ankle is not very good at Morde, even though he himself said he believes he is. There's a reason he hasn't played him in ranked this season. He's a great ADC player, though.

Regarding damage, he's one of those champs who deal a ton of damage which people don't notice until they see the end game graphs, as half of it comes out as damage over time (W and R).

Could the Heavy Metal Mace wielding ghost man be better? Of course.

But I do like my Morde. I tried him Support once, went quite well. My adc (MF) kept dying (she was having a bad game) but was getting assists from me getting the kills in bot lane. I actually got a triple of the adc, support, and jungler. I'm not gonna say that was just my awesome skill because eh...i need improvement...it was mainly the enemy team just was worse than us.

And i played Morde in Jungle...his camp clear is ok but the ganking was a problem....the dude moves super slow and you basically need a support hook to stop them or some kind of stun, root, snare, or freeze. Did ok though.

Chriszzzzz1 votes

I see what you mean, was playing top recently, getting outpoked and kited like hell, but, enemy jungler still decided to gank my losing lane, fortunately I got a counter gank, which ended up with a double kill for me, thing is, he is disabled in such a way that he cant do things on his own anymore, he depends on others for CC.

Beldair1 votes

Yea...though i appreciate Riot trying to give him his own identity by attempting a melee adc..was a nice attempt.

There's a reason most high ELO Morde mains use Stormraiser's! It also removes the need to rush Rylai's (though you still pick it up 2nd or 3rd item).

Azrael Jiraco1 votes

Mordekaiser is in a weird spot. He is either useless or overpowered, depending on your experience, champion and item knowledge of the guy.

http://www.lolking.net/summoner/euw/34599087

For example, I've reached Diamond playing only Morde primary top and secondary mid (yes, he CAN solo lane). The only 8 non-Morde games are when my team banned him from me or before dynamic queue.

I'm not special, different or talented. This is something everyone can do with the right knowledge and experience.

Chriszzzzz1 votes

Well would you mind helping me understand this new Morde? Since I cant seem to find a way to play him as I'm used to the old AP/spellvamp Morde.

Azrael Jiraco1 votes

I am always willing to help people who want to learn Morde!

Spell Vamp is no longer a requirement thanks to new W. If you still want to go spell vamp, Gunblade is the best item for Morde.

You want to max W, unlike old Morde. Don't use it outside of trades as the cooldown is long at first and you can be punished for wasting it. Q is maxed second.

Remember that jungle creeps heal for the full 4x amount, so abuse this lots.

Stormraider's is the mastery of choice. If your opponent trades for too long, he will not be able to avoid your third Q. Also helps with escaping ganks that you can't 2v1. Late game, with Swiftness Boots, you are 100% immune to slows when this is active.

Finally, AP Morde is still the best Morde. Rush Abyssal Scepter or Seeker's Armguard depending on your opponent. Sell Armguard last instead of upgrading. Rylai's should come after boots. If you don't like Stormraiser's, take Strength of Ages and rush Rylai's first. Strength of Ages is superior to Undying Grasp on Morde; I don't have the maths available but it was demonstrated by a Korean Master Morde main that I learned a lot from.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions. :)

Thanks for the help, gonna try him rn :D Will let you know the resuslts :3

Azrael Jiraco1 votes

Good luck on the rift, sir!

Chriszzzzz1 votes

Well then, one game building Morde the way you told me, S- and rank 5 mastery xD So more tank really is the way to go now

Azrael Jiraco1 votes

Excellent news! I also noticed that you almost dealt the most damage to champs on both teams. I hope this will make your future Morde games more enjoyable.

Chriszzzzz1 votes

It's a new style of playing, completely different from the old Morde, vs a Riven, not less fun tho, trding without getting dmg yourself is pretty nice, this certainly gave me hope for Morde ^^

Incognonymous1 votes

Morde will beat you if you play his game, but he has no tools to make you do it. He's probably the most counterable juggernaut-- itself an already extremely counterable class.
