Is Ryze truly weak right now?

He doesn't seem terrible but the stat sheets tell me otherwise. I played him twice and got an S both times, he's a fun champ. But his stats say he's bad right now. Is it true? Sort of want to start playing him.

You can make anything work if you put the effort in, the issue with Ryze is that his full potential is dependent on teamwork with his ult which is super unreliable. If you enjoy Ryze keep at it, you'll have more fun and grow as a player better than just hugging the meta choices.

I'm not much of a meta follower since I play what I enjoy (Shen's been my main top since forever even though he's "useless" in the words of lots of angry people) but Ryze has had a low general win rate for a while, so probably quite some time. Another benefit of not being meta is that people don't know how to fight you which can give you an advantage :P

ryze is a very strong champ on someone who can pilot him correctly. the issue is at lower elos/mmrs he isnt use effectively. in pro play he is and can be a nightmare.

The amount of effort it takes to make him useful is obscene in solo queue. But the apex of his power curve is rather high, so it has decent rewards. Are there better rewards from other champions that require half as much effort to skill? Yes. But if you enjoy Ryze, he has the potential and so do you through practice.
