Returning Player, are Aurelion Sol/Ziggs/Anivia in a good spot?

Context: I just returned to League from a 2 year-ish break (laptop couldn't handle it anymore), and looks like a lot has changed. Malzahar was my first and favorite champion, but the reasons I loved him weren't for his lane presence or 1v1 power. His old W was probably my favorite spell in the game, and while the new Voidlings W (and Malz himself) seems plenty strong it's just not quite doing it for me... I also preferred when he was underplayed.

So I'm looking for a new mid that I'll enjoy maining while relearning the game. I want to git gud with who I pick by one-trick-ponying them for a while, so really I just want to gauge what the general consensus is on where Aurelion Sol, Ziggs, and Anivia are in the mid-lane meta (I understand Ziggs seems to be running rampant in bot lane) at the moment.

**TL;DR ** How are they? Like any heavy counters being FotM, being counters to FotMs, notorious enough to likely get nerfed/buffed, itemization issues/things they can abuse, things like that?

Ziggs - very good spot

Aurelion Sol - Niche pick. In a good spot if you're good with them, but is not played much.

Anivia - Nerfed a bit recenetly. Kind of similar to Aurelion Sol, in a good spot if you're good with them. Played more often than Aurelion Sol.

Anivia got nerfed but if you know how to use her combo effectively you will be fine. She actually got technically 'buffed' for her intended role (area of denial).

Ziggs has been great, especially for pushing.

Aurelion Sol is in a really bad spot given how easy it is to abuse him in lane if you have gap close. They haven't touched him recently but he isn't really a viable pick right now, but Riot is working on a mini-shyvanaesque rework for him. As a summary, Aurelion Sol is the epitome of a niche pick. Only pick him when the enemy team does NOT have an assassin or your team has heavy front-line tanks.

Anivia - I've heard she's pretty rough right now, my buddy just quit maining her since the changes

Aurelion - I main this guy and I swear he's busted if you're good with him

Ziggs - Really good right now, pretty meta

I would take another 2 year break until Riot fixes the clown fiesta that's going on
