EKKO: How ULTIMATE MECHANICS "MIGHT" Work

What Up League Community! StarLord here with a Mechanics (Speculative) Overview for EKKO: The Boy who Shattered Time.

By now I'm sure many of you are asking yourselves... HOW THE F*CK is THAT Ultimate Mechanic going to work IN-GAME!!!????? summoner 31

In this Thread/Post I'm going to cover:

  • What we can Observe from the Video - Key Observations

  • Possible PROS and CONS for this Ult and it's Mechanics

  • Champion Type, Resource and Damage type.

  • Possible Build Path's for Ekko based on Observations

Let's start off with what we know. NOTHING. That's right we don't really know anything just yet. HOWEVER- We can make some:

KEY OBSERVATIONS: From the video Most of these "seem" like CONS summoner 3

  • This is clearly an Ultimate ability "Shattered Time"
  • There is a Set point for the ult, and then multiple resets available to that same set point. (Kinda like Zed's ult and Leblanc's dash meets Kassadin's ult).
  • Ekko** resets time** for EVERYTHING and EVERYONE (Except himself/his health bar) in the environment around him.

And for the sake of argument let's assume that the range of said Ultimate is Roughly the Range of Nocturn's Ultimate (That may be a tad big, but just bear with me here).

  • The Enemies memory of what happened is erased and Ekko's memory remains intact (In the Video's concept setting)

The memory erase of the enemy is arguably the best advantage that this Ultimate "would" provide, however in an actual PVP setting, it is utterly Impossible to implement. As your enemy will have the same knowledge of what happened as you do when resetting via Shattered Time.

Building on above said point ^ let's look at how this would end up in game from what we know so far:

  • Ekko and enemy(s) remember exactly what happened before the reset.
  • Enemies health/resource bars are back to what they originally were - whereas Ekko's are now reduced down to whatever they were reduced down to upon reset.
  • Only possible benefit is that any of Ekko's teammate(s) caught in Shattered time** also regain their health/resource** bars.

From this point it doesn't seem all that great, in fact it almost seems like a setback.

POSSIBLE PROS summoner 4 Let's not jump to any conclusions just yet.

  • Low CoolDown, Scaling Damage (& MR + Armor)?

From how this Ultimate looks in the Video - it is similar in a sense to Kassadin's Ultimate - having little to no cooldown. And we can assume that since this Repeatable within short periods of time and likely reduced health each cast -> it would provide scaling damage bonuses as well as magic resistance and armor buffs (to help deal with that now reduced health). And like Kassadin's ult, probably higher resource cost per cast.

  • May Also provide him with additional speed/agility boosts

As we can see him become more agile/precise with each reset.

Have any other points to add to this? Please share!

CHAMPION TYPE: _Resource? Damage type? _

  • Utility Melee Assassin -

Akin to Talon, Zed and maybe a bit of Leblanc/Kassadin

  • Resource

Mana, most likely. Though with Riot you NEVER KNOW.

  • Damage Type

AD. Duh. I mean c'mon, he's got a Cool Unique blunt Stone Sword... thing... That's AD... Right?

BUILD PATH(s) Excluding boots

  • Assuming Ekko's ultimate is like Kassadin's, that he uses mana and taking into account the fact that he has lower health each reset.

Core: Muramana item 3004 , Iceborn Gauntlet item 3025 , Black Cleaver item 3071 , Frozen Mallet item 3022 and finally Finish according to situation: Guardian's Angel item 3026 , Zz'Rot Portal item 3512, Frozen Heart item 3110 OR Maw of Malmortius item 3156

  1. Mana/damage items - for his ult/abilities + some added utility.
  2. Health/damage items - to help deal with his reduced health issue for each cast of his Ult
  3. Last Defensive Item: for added armor/magic resistance and utility.

Yes I included Zz'Rot, it is a very under rated item. Please see the points I brought up in the comments of this video for more on Zz'Rot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR3XHnPkDQs

OTHER PATH(s) Maybe it will end up something more to like what you would build on Talon, Zed or Yasuo. Focusing more on pure** damage, lifesteal, attack speed and armor pen.** But - I have a feeling it will be more like the bruiser builds found on Jayce and Urgot.

Thanks for Reading! I hope you enjoyed, and feel free to leave comments/feedback!

LASTLY: WE REALLY WON'T KNOW ANYTHING UNTIL WE SEE HIM IN PBE SERVER.

Hopefully I'll have my new gaming system and upload speed ready for you guys once Ekko hits PBE and I can stream or record it. If not, there are lots of other streamers that will give overviews on him.

It's problably weavers' ult from dota. This champion will be good bait for ganks. Enemy midlaner uses his whole combo on u, u press r, full hp, then u kill him.

what we see in the trailer and i dont see mentioned here is 1)the chain he pulls from the hourglass like device on his back, it indicates the point where the time stops rolling back 2)his enemies lose all the experiences from the fight, but he doesnt lose anything, he remembers and is still exshausted, also damage seems like it isnt fully healed (his jaw crackling after he rewerted the enem punch, his lack of breath after he gets whooped to the chest)

to me it seems like it will be a combination of a heal and blink, he sets up a restore point goes into fight, and when stuff gets back he blinks back and recowers some hp

thats all i can speculate

Or perhaps it's like bards ultimate, where it traps a ring around the player, and then drains mana until you decide to turn it off. In this, what it would do is reverse the actions of all people within the circle until you deplete your mana. OR it would be a set time, for instance, it would save your position in a queue, and then push the queue down every second you existed in a Runnable class, the queue would only have a certain index where it took the position from (8th position = 8 seconds) then what it would do is teleport you, and everyone within the circle, based on the usage of your ult and where they were positioned when the queue was appropriate recorded. This would cause for some serious CDR support builds, that's for sure.

I like the thread and your observations, but I will have to disagree on the mandatorily AD part. Diana, Katarina and old Sion looked everything but AP. And I can see him having a specific quote for when buying a Zhonya's :3

I feel like he's going to be similar to a Yasuo without his windwall passive in the way that hes extremely agile and can dodge easily but if he does actually get hit he's screwed.

All I could speculate is that when he pulls the chain, that's the point you activate the ult. From that point on you can use the ult 4 times before it expires. I think that it works that way because all he has to do is twist the switch on his arm and go back to when he activated the ult. It may cause a slow on the opposing champion and possibly still activate the cooldown on the abilities of the champion that were previously used. Ekko of course would still take damage.

I once had an idea for an "inter-dimensional dueler" that locks you and a target in a parallel space where neither can target anyone but each other. Thinking on similar lines to Poppy this is how his ultimate might work. By locking you and your opponent in an essential "time loop" you can keep them out of team fights (if they are key like the main tank or most fed damage dealer) binding them to a point in space, where they will be forced back to upon a time limit (Dota 2 has this) it would hurt a team trying to push or retreat, as you isolate one champion).

I think it will be like Kassadins ultimate, but since it does not reset your own hp, one key aspect is whether it'll affect items and summoner spells. Imagine Iron locket triggered twice, or being able to immediately reset Hydra or BtoK. If it doesn't affect items, it is equally as useful, as you could bait out enemy items, before resetting, so they can't use that champion smite or BtoK as a distance closer, so this time you escape, or this time "you" flash and "they" can't. Most of all, I think this champ will be going the same way as Kalista and Bard, in that it'll be so powerful in teams that utilise it, but can also be a supreme troll if done incorrectly. So it'd either affect only your target, or be an AOE, probably with Jannah or Maokai's ultimate range
