Able to change to smite if you forget it when you're on jg role

Zero Sum··22 votes·2,821 views

Being able to change one of your summoner abilities within the first thirty seconds of joining a match would be pretty sweet. I think it would help a lot with people who sometimes forget to change summoners and would help with people rage quitting because of the lack of a smite on their team. If i could get a response from any Riot employee that'd be awesome! Remember to up vote if you think this is something you would like so we can get it into the game!!

Sorry to play Devil's Advocate here, but uh... That idea would be no good. One, because spellbook already allows that (to an extent) and another reason being if a sports player doesn't stretch before a game, they get hurt. Player's should be responsible for, and take responsibility for, not paying attention to key elements of their role and their game.

The problem is in a flex scenario, you can run into a player that usually never jungles and doesn't have a page set up. They could not know what they need to be running setup-wise and as a result can spend the timer on rune setup alone. This can lead to rare scenarios in which smite isn't switched to.

Also, just for the record, I agree with you. I am just looking at things from all case scenarios and have come across quite a few instances where people get flexed to jungle and don't have any setup at all.

In a flex scenario, which I addressed below, it may happen; if you get someone like that, it would be wise to give them a nudge to change before runing up. After spending a year in bronze tier I've kinda come to the conclusion that sometimes you have to be responsible even for your team mates' mistakes, if you have the opportunity to help them correct those mistakes; it's all about how much you pay attention to the little things and how badly you want to set things up to win.

But then the teammates shouldn't suffer the consequences just because the person forgot.

I really think they should let you remake when your jungler forgot to take smite...

But then they'll probably abuse that as ''dodging the game without losing LP'' lulz ggwp.

The only thing I can respond to that with is, if it's soloQ you shouldn't expect anything out of your mates, even something as simple as that. if you're playing flex, you should probably find some new flex mates after that lol.

You can hard carry in soloQ and/or barely get by in 4v5 situations. Generally people forgetting smite is not too common but you'll generally get people who main their roles more often than not. No need to fear.

I checked your OP.GG not trying to talk trash about your rank but in my rank it's harder to carry you actually have to rely on teammates.

Yeah it's not common for a jungler to forget smite but if they do it's a mess.

Understandable, I don't expect anyone to take me seriously because I'm still learning the game myself. At that point all I can recommend is giving them a nudge to swap their summoner spells. Like I'd said above, sometimes you even have to be responsible for your TEAM MATES actions if you want to win lol. But that's just me and my opinion.

True, before the reworked Morelleo I had to buy item 3123 on Vladimir because my ADC was so stubborn that wanted to rush their ''core'' item first instead of building against healing. but yeah do agree on that gotta do what you gotta do.

Well before reworked morello the old morello was consistently built on Vlad despite it having mana. Both frost queen’s claim and morello were good items on Vlad and Mordekaiser alike despite neither of them using mana.

And in Vlad’s case, even a bramble vest would have been a better idea than an executioner’s calling.

Bramble vest didn't exist and I also needed GW immediately, it was the only item available til I bought Old morelleo.

Ah I see. Fair enough.

Players should, but not the rest of the team

Just a note, spellbook explicitly disallows the purchase of jungle items if you didn't start with smite, so it's not really a fix.

Well not every spell. There is counter spells (exhaust v assassian clease v ignite) that you have to guess. Maybe just Smite. definitely just smite.

^this.

The combination "first 30 seconds only + Smite only" should prevent most abuse cases.

Only in the fountain before the game starts, or else people could abuse it.

I vote no BUT make it automatically select smite if you get assigned jungle in lobby would be best.

Or to improve my idea just have a little pop up in champ select to remind you to put smite on if you don't have it equipped like if you get auto filled to jungle. It could always be an option to turn on/off in the settings if you don't like that type of stuff.

Lol, i just said this didn't see this before hand. The thing that sucks, is that something like this is really easy to implement and make options for to disable, I just don't know why riot doesn't do more QoL changes like this. They've added a lot of nice ones, but there so many more little things i'd like to see them bring into league

How about we don't require smite to use the jg items ? and i'm against the idea simply because there's a reason you can't see your opponents summoner spells until you start the match. Unless is just to switch to smite but! the enemy team should have a clear view of who has smite from the loading screen. Anyhow i'm against switching it during the match, maybe just have a pop up in champion select to remind you otherwise this can be abused in unforeseen ways.

Recon12121 votes

I think the solution to JG's not having smite is, if a persons role is JG and at a certain time in champ select they don't have smite, a pop up comes on their screen reminding them. It could end their, or it could go as far as making them dodge (like they were afk for ban etc.) They could possibly go to the extreme of changing one of their sums to smite, but then that would mean an algorithm or what not would need to select what sum to replace. Most of the time i'd imagine it would be the one that isn't flash, but for shaco or other champs who dont want flash smite.

DeadUnborn1 votes

this is a good idea! I think it should only be applicable to draft pick if you were assigned a jungler role, and only one summoner spell should be able to be changed to smite if the game reads you don't have it.

The opponent should be notified through a message if it happens, and as you say you can only change it as long as you don't leave you base before the 1:00 min mark.

Also this should only be for ranked and draft pick, not for tournament settings

I think that way you mitigate abuse cases

I mean can we just make smite a mandatory summoner if you're on the jungle role?

what about people who switch roles?
