Ekko Needs a Rework

> I'm a hardcore Ekko fan, or at least I was when tank Ekko was at it's best. Ekko's whole kit screams tank instead of assassin so even with all these nerfs I can still find new ideas and builds that make tank Ekko work but that's kinda Riot's problem here, they're trying so hard to make a tank champion kit work as an assassin, I mean look at his kit, his Q applies a slow and for an assassin who should be able to make his kills quickly this slow is unnecessary plus his Q has a higher scaling of AP for the return damage as if expecting his fight to last that long in order to apply that damage, if he were build full AP his enemies are normally dead before the time winder returns making the return damage kinda useless at late game, Rengar's E would seem like a decent argument but Rengar also has three other damage abilities while Ekko has to rely on the damage and slow from his Q at the same time which would be very useful for a tank that tends to stay in combat for a decent amount of time. His W is also the same problem, it takes an unnecessary amount of time for an assassin plus the passive damage that his W gives him is useless for a high damage assassin whose targets are squishy back line champions. When an enemy is at 30% health Ekko's E alone should be enough to finish them off without the need for that passive. Now Ekko's E is a decent assassin ability, it makes for a slippery champion with great engage to easily catch his prey and make great out plays and escapes but that's the only ability that is great for an assassin within Ekko's kit. Ekko's ultimate ability would seem great for disengage after killing a target but if it takes to long to kill the target then it no longer becomes a great escape and it's not amazing engage because it takes you backwards, you could only engage with it if your enemies were standing right where you were 4 seconds ago so it's a very conditional engage which isn't very helpful for an assassin and the damage, as high as it is, tends to be wasted either because you got caught out and needed a quick escape or your target is already dead and you just want the heal, so this leaves Ekko's passive, his Q, and his E for damage and since his Q's scaling is higher for return damage and his E is mostly for the engage and not the damage(unless you have Lich Bane in which his E does a good amount of damage for an assassin) so that leaves his three hit passive to do all the damage and holy hell it does a lot of damage when built full AP, but because most of his damage is in his passive then that would mean his other abilities are basically only used to stack his unoriginal and overused 3 hit passive. Any CC that prevents Ekko from popping his passive is all it takes to prevent Ekko from killing anyone making him a very unreliable assassin, he's not unusable, he's just unreliable. Ekko either needs to be pushed back into a tank as his kit would imply that he should be or just straight up rework his kit. I've thought about it for a while and I've come up with many ideas that could make Ekko a reliable assassin worthy of the title Boy Who Shattered Time but it's still a work in progress. As much as I like Ekko I'd like more to see him fixed and balanced.

I'm a level 6 Ekko and i've been playing him for a while now but even when i first started playing him, i have HATED the tank build , he was never meant to be a tank and what I saw was him getting nerfed because of people playing him tank, i'm glad Riot killed tank Ekko, the build is a disgrace and I detest any use of tank Ekko

that's fine, tank ekko is finally dead and if you do so your elo will die too

drop W, E in, throw Q to slow so they can't leave W, stun with W, R out, Q returns and kills squishy.

seems like a good assassin to me.

Yes but that's assuming your target is still within reach of your Q after you disengage or that you land your Q in the first place and what if your stun misses, and within the time it takes to finish this combo an enemy has plenty of time to heal, get back up, apply CC, and/or escape. The enemy isn't going to hold still for you to apply all of this. If your E is on cool down after engaging then you've lost your mobility as well making it harder to avoid CC, and using your ultimate as a disengage is a huge waste of damage.

They're stunned from W, so chances are they're still within reach.

or that you land your Q in the first place

It's a skillshot. Missing isn't a problem with his kit, but the player.

and what if your stun misses

again, it's a skill shot. You can make that argument for a lot of assassins. It just happens to be one that's more difficult to land consistently. Fortunately if you do miss and get in a sticky situation, you can just ult out.

within the time it takes to finish this combo an enemy has plenty of time to heal, get back up, apply CC, and/or escape.

How are they doing that if they're stunned or slowed? But yes, there should be a chance for the enemy to counter play you. The whole point of the assassin update was to attempt to add more counterplay to assassins and make their burst less instant.

The enemy isn't going to hold still for you to apply all of this.

That's why you have a stun and a slow, so they can't run away.

That is true, landing skill shots and counter playability are what riot has been trying to get, but if he were to play as an assassin then he would have killed his enemy before the stun even landed, before his timewise even returns. The average combo is E Q AA and if your target isn't dead then you either run and try again when your cool downs are up and hope they haven't run or continue to fight them and risk taking lots of damage which is risky for a squishy assassin. Yes, I agree that Ekko is usable the way he is, but that can be said for every champion, but just because it's "usable" doesn't mean that it's the best. He could still stand for a rework that makes him more fun to play with and against and isn't some cluster fuck of abilities.

Ekko is massive clusterfuck of an identity crisis, he wants to do everything so as a result he ends up all over the place, imo he should be reworked into an offical diver, or tank, or assassin, not trying to make him into everything

Exactly, his kit just doesn't fit together as an assassin like it should or at least the way riot is wanting.

Please edit your post to be in paragraphs. It is hard to read such a huge chunk of writing.

I agree, ekko is a really cool champion that has kind of lost a place... even in solo q. His visuals and mobility make him look more like an assassin or a mage bruiser. Apparently as we've seen he is a very hard champ to balance, and really it's because of his ult that gives him so much safety to go balls deep into enemy lines.

Love how camille gets to exist while ekko is trash.

Riot has a lot of champions they need to fix instead working on new ones.
