Why do placements drop you so low on the ladder?

Was watching some old Anklespankin and Joe and realized that a 9/10 wins dropped them into Silvers 2 and 5, even though they were Master and Challenger tier.

Why do placements drop you so low? I would like to request that placements don't end at 10 games, and you are placed by how high you could climb before losing twice.

I'm looking at this anklespankin fellow on op.gg and he ended last season diamond 3, and is currently plat 1, having played 11 ranked games so far this season. This seems inconsistent with what you're suggesting their ranks are.

Tbh that's fairly good for high elo players as they can easily climb themselves out of those games. Overall, the games to them (if they are truly good) would be like a bot match. So I believe it to be some what balanced, only issue is that us little guys would have challengers disguised as silvers. Destroying us in the process of them going back to where they belong. Which I like to call "Noob Slaughtering Season".

That's silly. I was gold 1 last season and I got placed gold 5 this season. Is everyone really dropping so much?

IIRC, he hit master in S3.
