The problem I see with champion reworks.

So I've recently quit the game after playing it since late season 2. Say what you want but I was mostly a casual player who just played norms to have fun a relax. With that being said I feel like this game just isn't fun anymore, not because of the meta changes but because of the changes they have made to some of my favorite champions over the years. How I have to accept not ever being able to play the same game I use to love despite it staying pretty much the same. I feel as if riot are so quick to completely replace champions with "toxic" or "outdated" kits when they could just add something a little extra and change the numbers like they did with nidalee. It has gotten to the point in the game where they reworked or completely nerfed every champ I enjoy playing and I look forward to the new champs they come out with 'the only recent one being kaisa'. I like kaisa because she was like a better vayne who could build anything she wanted.

Back when I was in high school in late season 5 I started playing evelynn, but not just the normal evelynn build but a sort of tanky on hit ad eve build. After my first few games on this build I fell in love and this was all i would play on her. I would spam her all day on the weekends and I loved damn near every game even the ones I didn't do well in. And I would continue to play her like this all the way until her unfortunate rework. Despite only playing her about 5 times since then she still remains my highest mastery champ, And it saddens me that I will never be able to play her again. The new champ maybe some what similar but gameplay wise does nothing to fit the niche of the the World of warcraft "rogue" like she use to. But she isnt the only rework I felt. Back in season 3 I loved playing ryze, back when I could just smash my dick on the keyboard and do decent. That version of ryze was how i got my first ever penta in the game. and thats how a beginner champion should be a champ like annie with a simple design. Not this complex piece of dog shit that riot cant even fix after 10 reworks.

I watched the doublelifts video on a similar topic. While i don't agree with everything he said, I do agree that riot should just use the gameplay concepts for reworks on a new champion instead of never letting the people who enjoy those champs never play them again.

Idk im sorry if the grammars bad im not trying to write a college essay I just wanted to rant on this topic a little bit because i was thinking about how much I loved to play eve and how I never could again.

How many MORE champions would Riot have to deal with if they did that, though? Some champs are balancing nightmares. If you had to keep them in the game forever, that means you're committed to attempt balancing them forever. If you go the old Yorick route of dumpstering them and forgetting they exist, their mains will get pissed due to lack of attention.

Some champs are just really shitty designs. That simple.

Well look at it this way. It would slow down the rate that they put out new champions because instead of getting a new champ and a new rework in about 3 months time. you would get a new more thought out champ within the same amount of time. Then we dont have nightmares like zoe was. at least i would hope.

The people that work on NEW champs aren't the same people that rework champs. Or rather, there are different teams that work on different projects. Same thing for people that design champs and people that balance champ designs after the designing stage.

So if we just never did a rework again, that would mean we'd end up having more free resources to solely pump out more champs. This doesn't mean that we'd never see a "Zoe" champ, but we'd flip the coin/roll the dice/spin the wheel on newcomers more often than we do now.

This honestly. Say what you want about current balancing but early Riot was garbage at producing champions with kits not dripping with toxic elements. Oldies like AP Yi, Yorick, One Spear Woman, Yorick, 99% ban rate Kassidin, Yorick, etc. Reworks aren't only to revitalise a champ with a lackluster play rate but to also create a champion in a similar niche that's less of a balancing nightmare.

Whereas current Yorick feels like they were trying desperately not to add anything that could ever be overpowered in the slightest way, like CC that isn't really CC or an E that is impossible to hit or having Maiden get instantly murdered by turret and being uncontrollable.

I’m bitter to this day about the Eve rework. I played about 40 games with the new Eve and quit the game about a month after the rework. For well over a year before the rework I would join in on RSS feeds, listen to pod cast about Eve rework theory, and chat with rioters through other sources, like the forums. I don’t know how many times I’ve said this to them but I didn’t give a FUCK what they did to her as long as she was a FAST HYBRID. They took that away from Poppy and Eve was all I had left.

I would take Storm Raiders in masteries, 3 movement quints, flat ad reds, flat ap blues, w/e yellows I felt like, throw in at least 1 crit chance rune then.... get a kill level 2 and rush sheen into boots the triforce. I was FAST AS FUCK, so fast I needed my own theme song. I would drop E on someone, instantly prop Stormraiders and press w for 600+ movement speed and FUCKING CHASE DOWN THOSE DASHY, BLINKY, FLASHY OP MOBILE AS FUCK CHAMPS and beat them the fuck down with auto attack’s, no bs, at max rank E was giving over 100 (150?) percent attack speed. Yes you smash that q a million times WHILE you slap and kick the shit out of them.

Not only did riot do a real disservice to Eve mains, but it was a straight SIN to rework her without hybrid ratios. This is the single worst things they’ve ever done. It disturbs me so much I come to the forums STILL to vent my anger and I don’t understand why. Maybe because I’ve lost something that was INCREDIBLY valuable to me and Riot proves how insensitive they are ignoring the subject for so long. It feels like they murdered a live one and I quite literally hate them. If I was Riot I’d be extremely careful about how I’d handle reworks in the future. These characters aren’t just digital property anymore, they have evolved past that.

Reworks are Riot's way of nerfing champions that become too powerful after a bunch of patches. Every champion I ever had fun playing has been reworked to some degree, and I have not fully regained the level of skill I had with their old kits. I started with Ryze, then Talon, Katarina, Gangplank, Galio, Shaco, and finally Sion. Each of these champions got major changes, and I hate every one of them. The only ones I still routinely play are Teemo, Vel'Koz, and Xerath at this point.

Same. I hate how rework-happy riot/this community is. A total rework should be a last resort for only the absolute most broken of champions, not a routine thing like it is now (visual updates are fine tho). Having your favorite champion get deleted absolutely sucks and I think this is something people should pay more respect towards.
