I need some guidance against volibear!

Hi Its Khamet·8/18/2015, 10:00:08 PM·1 votes·615 views

So I main Cho'Gath top... and I just cant seem to win ever against volibear, he just zones me, throws me, bites me, and out sustains me... then he gets either well farmed or fed from ganks and it's gg, since i took a while to get those 6 stacks then back down to 3, quite often back down to 3 almost straight after i get back up to 6 when there is a volibear... I just can't deal with him... and yet it seems like cho'gath should find it easy vs voli?!

If anyone can give me some advice that would be great, I can provide replay.gg links too.

volibear doesnt have any sustain built into his kit....he has a nasty passive though and its kinda troll. The only advice i have is get really good with the ruptures, and take ignite for the grievous wounds - it will gutter stomp his passive. keep track of when his passive pops so you know its down and when it will be up.

the dude is melee, so you shouldnt have any trouble harassing him tbh.

Cho is freelo against Voli. No idea why you would have problems.

You can poke him non stop the entire game and there isn't anything he can do about it. AA with vorpal spikes; free harass. If he charges you to throw you, just rupture next to you and walk away. If he dodges rupture, silence him and he can't do anything. Not to mention you out sustain him so much it's laughable.

This is why I'm so annoyed with myself! So take ignite in place of flash/ghost or in place of tp? and are there any items that work well for a tank/bruiser cho that counter him?

Thanks for the advice so far :)

I would suggest taking ignite into Voli matchup. It really helps even though you lose some advantage from objective control. How you hit your skillshots is your own thing. When he charges at you just cast Q infront of yourself when moving away, you can turn things around easily after that.

Having played quite a bit of voli top this season i'll try to help if i can. Though the lane CAN be tough as cho, depending on how aggro/passive the voli is and what his runes are.

Be warned of his passive, it can bait you into some crazy deaths, it also makes an all in pretty tough depending on how far ahead you are.

If he starts Dorans BLADE, and not shield or flask or something, be wary of some form of level 2 cheese (if he's smart he will auto attack, step ahead, auto).

Chances are against you he will rush Visage. if you are going RoA into Frozen heart (not sure if you're going damage or not) you should be okay unless he gets jungle help or is way ahead. if there isnt a lot of cc on his team besides his get tabi, though mercs helps against his E/ult.

There are two routes you can roll with abilities. Max W for the silence/damage/creep exploding or E if he's being aggressive (you're E will outrade his autos unless gets a bite off on you when below 60%). if he doesnt have W pre stacked before flipping you, auto twice, silence, and walk away.

If the lane is even or he is playing super passive you can get a Ludens after RoA (but get glacial shroud), work on getting feast stacks while poking him if you can.

Chances are the lane is going to go even assuming you dont get all inned or cheesed, just farm up, try to make a tp play and hope you can deal with him in teamfights.

Im going to list some break points/stat checks to watch for.

  1. He hits level 2 before you (watch for an all in, his W does a LOT of damage)
  2. He hits level 6 before you and has already been back and picked up a kindlegem/giants belt
  3. He kills you once or twice and goes Triforce (at this point assuming has no other items you can get jungle to come up and kill him if you both go at full hp). He will do a lot of damage with TF if you are not careful.
  4. Watch for him backing off or going into brush, he will probably go for a tp play if dragon is open (he can shred dragon with ult and W). OR he will try and bait you into face checking the brush if he waits long enough.

Hm okay, thanks for the guidance, and btw are there any other top champs that are similar to Cho?

well it all depends, pedobear is cho's counter but if you can play him well enough you should be able to fuck him up

  • you have that fucked up passive that gives you hp and mana back, so can't out-sustain you, but if you still get raped by him just play passive it should do the trick :D
