A solutions to disconnects and quitters!

I have, what I think, is an awesome idea for this game to be improved. It's original in its foundation, but there's a possibility your developers have thought of something similar. And, of course, it would only work for non-ranked games. I don't care if I get credit for this idea,, but I just want to see it implemented.

For non-ranked games, add a feature under the "Play" section that allows players to take the place of a summoner who has dc'd or left a game to try and help balance the game a bit for the disadvantaged team! :)

What if the dced guy manages to reconnect?

These are problems that Riot will ultimately have to decide on, but, here are two potential thoughts i had on this issue.

  1. After a certain amount of time afk (2min?) the team deserves the chance of someone else simply taking his place. So, his internet gets back on line, he won't be able to play in that specific game.

  2. A notification can appear on the player's screen who took his spot, saying that the original player would like to reconnect. The interim player then gets to decide whether or not to let him back in and should get some IP either way.

I was thinking it allows the dc player to just reque if someone fills his spot, granted there would be a penalty if they dc and reque too often. This allows the DC player to restart and not be under level, out golded, and way behind in game.

Not possible with the way the clients are set up.

Parkerrr1 votes

easy fix,

disregardable2 votes

if you consider completely rewriting the code for the whole client an easy fix..

Parkerrr1 votes

As someone who works with code.... pain in the ass, sure. No reason to leave a game unbalanced with dcs, if you have a solution!

insanesock3 votes

Would it require a full rewrite, or just an update to it? Like how they update the client every single patch?

Parkerrr1 votes

Portions would have to be re-written, and the rest quick-edited to coincide with the change, but yes, it would be released as a patch.

It´s not as simple as it looks, first of all you need to think about this: the afk is playing X champ, if someone joins they are forced to play the said X champ which could lead to a negative outcome, since no one wants to be Forced to play X champ on Y lane.

Moreover the problema is not the code, its the way it could be done, if you had one afk and someone clicked to join in the afk place, you could have to force - out the afker from the game while doing so he could also get a X nº of reports or whatever and the new guy could have to wait for the loading and so on.

Also the one who joined in the afker place could be forced to take a lot of decisions (gold wise) since the guy who left could have bought a total troll build wasting gold and so on.

There are a lot of problems and there is no way to fix this in the way you said.

Your first point: If someone decides to play this "gametype", they would be specifically ready to play "X" champ in "Y" lane, that's the point. Even if they're bad, it will still be more balanced than 4v5.

Your second point: afk reports are almost meaningless because leaverbuster already accounts for afk, plus, someone is coming to take their place, so the chance of an AFK report being filed is actually lessened. ANd of course he'll have to wait for a loading screen.. again, still better than 4v5 in the end.

Your third point: Yes he would be forced to take a lot of decisions. His goal is to help a disadvantaged team to the best of his ability, even if that means reversing troll decisions.

So yeah. Still good.

The solution is to do what DOTA does; let people leave.

Parkerrr1 votes

That's certainly an alternative idea.

insanesock2 votes

I see, you as the "AFK Farmer" want to keep afk's and dc's in game.

disregardable1 votes

Someone doesn't watch Trick2g...or any entertainment streams at all.

AFK Farming- To farm almost exclusively and rarely teamfight; to your team, it is like you are AFK. This can be a benefit for your team (Nasus) or a hindrance (their team is at your nexus).

There's always a chance when you go Udyr XinZhao , and you're like "Ok I reached 300 FF/Devourer stacks, not let's wreck some shi- wtf, since when our mid inhib died?" "Thanks to you from afk farming & not helping do ganks"

Every. Time. I. Jungle.

Someone doesn't have a sense of humor at all. AFK Farming- Its your name and this post is all about afk/dc's, it is like you are oblivious to play on words. This can benefit you because you don't get confused by puns, or a hindrance when you act like a dumbass.

Hinder is a verb you know. Impede is a more common synonym that could've worked equally well.

insanesock2 votes

You're so ridiculous my dude.

People should just use the report function at the end of the game, get these afks, leavers, dcers and all around bad players that dont rly care to be better, down to where they queue up with each other, GG

Parkerrr1 votes

Good careful players dc too m8

Drunkèn Master1 votes

I'm sure we all do at some point, i have had maybe 1 or 2 incidences in my past 50 games. You know what I'm talking about, those players that have connection issues and try to just play thru it. Reconnecting 10 times during a game, game after game...this is unacceptable.

Parkerrr1 votes

I agree, those players are a problem!

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

I don't want to help fill a Katarina going 0/11 in lane. Just waste my time.

Parkerrr1 votes

It would be partly a gametype of altruism. For players that really do want to help balance. I wouldn't mind taking over an 0/11 and trying my best to bring her back. You'd get a modicum of extra IP for helping out, and you would get to work on your skill set of playing from the disadvantaged position. If you truly think it's a waste of time, don't play the gametype. Like me and dominion for example..

Dark Topline1 votes

I've thought about that myself, but it's really a pointless addition. Matchmaking would have to find the dc'd/quit summoners exact champion and rough skill level to continue. Not to mention this isn't a small or easy idea to implement.

Unfortunately it's not really possible for RIOT to release anything to guarantee any afkers/quits/dcing.

Parkerrr1 votes

You're right about the skill level, but they have to do that with every gametype. As far as the exact champion, I'm thinking this isn't necessary. I think maybe you can pref a position, but the champion will be completely random, whatever is already in these games. And just to preemptively answer some questions:

  1. Even if the player is bad at said champion it's still better than 4v5, and they get a chance to work on skills with said champion.

  2. You wouldn't have to own the champion to play in game either. And yes, first timers will be bad, refer to previous. First timers exist with the free weak champions in normals anyways, but you're only a first timer with a champ once :) That's kinda the point

Just posted a similar idea, but I think it should be for ranked as well. Losing LP in a 4v5 is deflating. Finding a way to incorporate this idea with ranked would be very beneficial to all players

Parkerrr1 votes

I'd like it formed for rank also, I just felt like it would be difficult. But, yeah, I'm all for it. Link your post so I can bump it!

Max Nobody1 votes

"original" he said.

Parkerrr1 votes

Yeah, meaning, I came up with it. That doesn't mean other people don't have similar ideas. Nor does it mean it doesn't exist elsewhere. Please keep your useless comments off this discussion.
