is zed good at the moment?

If played correctly Zed can destroy anyone, but he is extremely hard to master. Honestly right now Yasuo would be my go-to mid laner because of that "Overlord's bloodlust" masterie, but It will get nerfed in the next patch (even after the nerfs Yasuo will be a decent champion) . If you are willing to put time and effort into playing shitload of games as Zed, then buy him ! He Is also fun to play, so you won't get bored after 4-5 games. Good luck !

All champions that just built ad + last whisper (wukong, kha, zed, riven) etc are absolutely terrible right now.

They have no item to replace last whisper and lost a ton of damage vs both squishies and tanks with the changes. If you can't use crit, you are in a terrible spot because Riot doesn't know what they are doing.

Also LMAO at people saying Riot will fix things. Champions that built 400 ad + old last whisper will remain terrible unless Riot designs an item solely for them. At this point all they are going to do is number tweaking. Riot seems to have forgotten that last whisper is an item that wasn't only built on adcs.

zed is amazing right now along with other assassins but he is one of the hardest champs to play as correctly so if you are looking for a easy time stomp fest in mid lane as soon as you get him that wont happen but if you are looking for a champ that will take a good bit of time to master and until then the fun is not that high then zeds your guy

Zed is average/on the weak side right now, a lot of his core items were changed or outright nerfed in the preseason . Unless your AD champion can build either crits, or they probably aren't in the best spot right now (Zed builds neither).

However Zed has some buffs coming up and in addition, a new item which is ideal for assassins will be introduced soon Riot have said.

So if you like the look of the champion, go ahead and save up for him; he's not that great right now, but I'm sure he will be fine once the preseason is over and Riot have gotten itemization and champion balance to a healthier spot. Zed is overall pretty fun to play and has a fairly high skill-cap and skill ceiling.

Zed, along with ad assassin mid laners is gonna have big impact in this season. However, you will need to master him to perform well, which is gonna take some time! Good luck to whatever choice you make!

Hes worth it, once you master Zed, all other champions are a walk in the park, Hes my favourite champion. Even though hes kinda weak now, it wont stop me playing him

I'm not gonna lie, from what I've seen so far, he's trash in this pre-season. Once he and other AD caster assassins get some new items, he'll be fine again. He's ridiculously fun and I totally recommend him once he gets a buff and assassins get an item to replace all of the power they lost.

Welp, as a Zed main, I highly recommend you to buy Zed. He's extremely fun to play, although he has a pretty high skillcap. It took me a few months to even play him decently, actually. If you do end up buying him, I hope I don't see you in game because I hate other Zed players.
