Just a bronzer in need of advice

This season I was placed in bronze 5. I thought I was good enough to climb out to silver fairly easily but I'm still stuck down at the bottom. I posted a link to my lolking page. I'm wondering if there's something you guys see that I can change. I'm never toxic and only support my teammates. Mechanically I think I'm pretty good. I think I have questionable play calls so I want some advice and when to do what or how to motivate my team to take an objective given the opportunity. Any advice is appreciated.

My Advice:

**Which Lanes should I play? **

  • Find like 2 roles you really like playing and a couple champions that you really like playing in each of those roles.
  • Stay out of bot lane. Unless you are a GOD of an ADC, which most people aren't (including me), you aren't going to reliably carry from bot lane.
  • Realistically pick Mid/Top, Mid/Jung, or Jung/Top.
  • Mid and Jungle is probably the best option as you have the most pressure on other lanes and objectives especially early. Top can have a tendency to be kind of isolated and sometimes you find out that your team got crushed and it is too little too late to help them now.

What Champions are Good to Play?

This is kind of a matter of preference and you should play the champions you find fun, that being said, my recommendations are:

  • Play mechanically simple champions. Even though your mechanics may be okay for a bronze or even silver level, playing mechanically simple champions reduces the possibility of mistakes, the less mistakes you make, the more often you'll find yourself winning.
  • Some examples: Amumu Garen Gragas Hecarim Maokai Trundle Annie Fizz Malphite Zac
  • Tanks and Initiators are great for Bronze because you dont need to make LCS Big Plays and do flashy stuff to win. A tanky as hell Garen spinning on their ADC or APC is just as effective if not more effective because they probably aren't good enough to kite you or get away.

General Mechanics/Things to Consider

  • FARM - I can't stress how important this is, people in bronze and silver suck at farming and one way you can pretty much auto win your lane is by last hitting every creep that you have the ability to. Don't die for some farm and don't do anything too crazy for farm, but every minion that you have the ability to last hit, you ought to be last hitting.

  • Towers - These are your bestfriends. In my opinion they are the most important objectives in the early mid game. Push your tier 1 tower as soon as possible. Then, rotate to an adjacent lane and help push that tier 1. After all tier 1s have fallen, get wards up in their jungle so you can see if their team or groups of their team are moving towards areas of the map. Proceed to try and control dragon/baron and take tier 2 towers.

  • Vision - This is so important both in lane and even more so after laning phase. If you can't see the enemy jungler/team/whoever, play it safe. Vision comes first, so if you want to take a dragon so badly, but you just cant see their jungler/mid laner, assume they are in the bushes waiting to kill you and steal the dragon.

This is kind of just some basic info off the top, you can add me in game if you want if you have any questions or whatever.

Thanks I appreciate it! My farm is pretty dreadful. Out of all this vision is all I'm ok at. I'll try to main mid and jungle and farm better instead of focusing on poking.

WooBeeWoo1 votes

I once was reading a guide to diamond and the guy said in early laning phase NEVER use abilities to harass if it will cause you to miss farm. This is a great starting point. Focus on farming first for a while and eventually you will get to the point that you can farm and still use abilities to harass. In bronze great farming should get you plenty of a lead.

This guy crushed it. I was going to type up a list of things but Desperado nailed it. Learn low skill cap champs (only 2) and play them a lot. Stop screwing around with Kassadin, your farm is too low per game to make him work effectively.

Practice is literally the only key to getting better at this game my man. Having a reasonably sized champ pool (but not too large) and practice. Maybe when I have a chance later we can play some games and I'll show you where I think you could improve. :)

Also, destroy your ego. I'm not saying you're egotistical (having confidence is important in this game too) but statistically, you're at the bottom of the ladder. Your mindset should correlate to that and you have to work from that point to get better.

Swaggernaut421 votes

I've been thinking it's my play calling. I never really know when to push towers or when to take baron. I also think my vision could use work, although, I use my wards as often as possible. Maybe my placement is bad because my team still doesn't see ganks coming.

SKT T1 LaFlame5 votes

Calls are one of the easiest things in League. You just have to be able to create theoretical situations in your head. Lemme give you an example.

You're Master Yi, the enemy jungler is Xin Zhao/Lee/Nidalee. Your team just got an ace, but your teammates aren't following your calls, which forces you and your mid laner (Xerath) to duo dragon. But the enemy jungler and their mid laner (Zed) are up in 15 seconds and it's a tanky dragon which takes longer to clear. You should be able to discern that the enemy jungler in 15 seconds with homeguards would be able to come to the dragon with his mid laner and wipe you and Xerath and steal the dragon, so you back off and maybe grab a different objective or just back.

Like I said, that's a hypothetical but it's a good example IMO.

Swaggernaut421 votes

I tend to stay on objectives even when I think of these things. I have a hard time backing out half way through. lol ok I'll try to put some more thought into it and just bite the bullet. Thanks!

Spicy Rice1 votes

You need to get a sense of when things are going to shit So you can back out safely. 9/10 it's better to back out than to just stay in and have a death battle

Swaggernaut421 votes

I've come to realize that. Sometimes it pays off and that's great. But when it doesn't you're just like...that was really stupid to stay there. Thanks for the scenario too. I'll focus on that some more.

current season plat 4, last season plat 1 jungle /support / top main here.

a few tips: in your high KDA games you are still allowing the game to go on for 50 min. that means you are not pressing the advantage. that means your decisions are not good.

contrary to what some others say, decisionmaking isn't easy. if it was, would they take a bet that they can lead a game better than C9 Hai if it's so easy? lol no fking way.

one of the most important parts of decision making is understanding when and why your team is strong or weak. for example, in your khazix game that you lost despite 21 kills. your team comp had no CC, low sustained damage and weak peel vs. kat and xin. so why did you guys 1. allow it to go late and 2. group up in a lane when it did? you didnt understand that your team comp is weak both in even teamfights and in many 1v1s. you were supposed to either snowball to early win or get catches during rotations later.

Tip for you, if you are going to ever try and teach anyone anything don't insult them and listen! And also don't run around for 10 mins doing nothing! If you were CS "like you said" you would be way behind! You can't teach because you don't listen or understand this game. And I would beat you down 1vs1 if you take 10 mins off doing nothing. The worst player here could beat you!

I went 21-7-7, got every single dragon except 1 and got an S.

You fed your ass off and stood motionless for 15 minutes in a 40 minute game. You literally did not stop typing. I had to mute you and so did the rest of the team.

You wanna 1v1? lol. I'll destroy you so hard that you won't be able to log on from the trauma for a month.

lies. You went around doing nothing for 10 mins and that dumb team followed suit. I did not feed. I only died 4 times and I only died the 4th time because no one was pushing. Yeah, I kept asking you what the plan is? And you never answered. Yeah because I kept asking you were we ever going to push? I play to win, not to f around. You wasted my time with BS. You aren't that good. I will unblock you and play you. Fake Plat!

You do know anyone can spectate you when you play a game, right? Anyone can look you up on op.gg and watch you play whenever you're in an active game. Anyone can watch you fail to get even half the CS in lane.

You have the skills of a bronze 5 player man. Even in the games you do well in you make basic mistakes that almost anyone could help you fix, but instead you would rather ignore the truth we've all been telling you.

You have no right to call someone a fake plat when you refuse to listen to basic and well accepted truths about the game in order to improve your own play.

redniwediS3 votes

That's one problem. The other problem is that you are rarely a positive force for your team. When you do well you end with a good score, but you don't know how to translate that gold advantage into a victory for your team. You just don't understand how to snowball a game.

Normally people gain this knowledge simply by playing, but you don't seem to learn from playing. You play a ton of games and yet you don't seem to learn anything from them, at least not at any reasonable speed. You can't even effectively refute this since you've been playing ranked for at least two seasons and you still don't last hit minions properly.

You're the only person I know who regularly has an MMR lower than the average for bronze 5 and also claims to be a good player.

So I'll say what I almost always say to you; stop worrying about your team and work on fixing your own problems. From what I can tell the only thing you've improved on is your casting speed, which is not really a praise worthy improvement.

Go into a custom match with no runes, masteries, or items and work on getting last hits only. Once you hit level 6 leave the game and start a new one. Do this until you can reliably get 5 of the 6 minions of every wave plus the cannon minion from level 1 to 6.

Once you can last hit in a controlled setting you can work on applying it to a lane environment whenever you don't jungle. The extra gold will help you not fall behind so often, and might actually be enough to push you out of bronze 5 for good. it won't get you to silver, but it might be enough to stop you from living in bronze 5.

EDIT: After watching your latest Warwick game, which at the time of this edit you are still playing, you really need to work on your items. You need to pick items that are appropriate for the situation at hand.

For instance your latest game had three AP champions on the enemy team. The only MR item you built was Wits End, and you built two armor items. Yes Master Yi is a damage threat, but his true damage makes your armor less useful, which really only leaves Tristana as a physical damage threat.

You might as well get MR/Health items like Spirit Visage and Banshee's Veil and get damage/sustain items like Blade of the Ruined King or Bloodthirster instead. Try to match the items you're buying to the situation at hand.

Nothing positive is happening. I do practice, I do customs. That's what the other account is for. Nothing works. SO, this is all I have left. It is what it is.

redniwediS2 votes

Nothing works? You've barely just started practicing mate. You can't play a few customs and suddenly know how to farm. You're missing out on some really basic skills so I wouldn't expect results until at least a few months of practicing everything has gone by.

Maybe if you spent more time practicing than you do playing ranked you wouldn't be bronze 5 all the time. Ranked is not where you practice, and playing ranked while you're still at the same skill level you're at won't actually help you.

So stop complaining and just go practice more. Don't give up if it doesn't work right away like you usually do. Just keep practicing.

You've played 700 ranked games this season. If you put even half that dedication into practicing you wouldn't be bronze 5 all the time.

You keep saying practiced. Are you done practicing? Are you done trying to get better?

I don't really care which account you're using, you need to put some actual effort into it. If you want I can practice CSing with you so we can stall the lane and make it a bit faster.

That said I've seen you CS today. You still just auto attack and make no attempt to last hit. I don't have the slightest idea what you're actually doing when practicing, but if you are actually trying you should make an attempt to put it to use in game sometime.

anyone that's trying to help someone doesn't beat them up about everything they do wrong. They first look at their strengths and then their weakeness. Improve both of them and then work with them. league isn't for you. no matter how good you are at the game, there will always be someone higher flaming you for everything you are doing wrong. Strength is irrelevant, you get better at league by minimizing the number of wrongs you do in a game. if you ask for advice but can't handle given constructive criticism, you should stop asking for advice because chances are you didn't care that much about getting better.

issues are invalid, most likely you think too much about stuff that doesn't matter and completely ignore the things that do matter.

That's the problem though. The kind of criticism you're giving isn't exactly constructive. You do give criticism, but you're also being condescending while doing so. "What do you think mechanics are in league of legends." How does that actually serve to help him, just as an example.

i wonder what people mean when they say mechanics. do you fail to use flash defensively? do you fail to cs with autos and spells because outside of those, mechanics aren't going to do much for you if your only goal is to climb to silver.

I think there is a much LARGER issue of not accepting that you're not good at the game YET and that denial is preventing you from improving. Lyless, you're the only person in all of your games. Yes, sometimes you lose games because of other people, but sometimes you win games because of others. You are the common denominator.

Lyless, we've played 3 games together. We won 2 (and the one one we lost you played Olaf top and went 0-7 against illaoi) If you played and won 2 of every 3 games you'd be out of bronze in no time.

You're in the "teen driver" stage. Where you think you're good, but you're actually trash. If you would just listen and apply the HUNDREDS of posts of advice that you blatantly ignore with bullshit comments like "I'm not bad at this game" and "that advice doesn't apply to me" you would get bett

You are still treating me like I don't know a thing about the game. That's not only disrespectful, it's wrong. I am trash anymore. My games lately prove it. I will not admit to a lie. What you need to do if you want to help is ASK me where I think I can improve!? I am good because I worked at it. And no, because I can't climb out doesn't mean I suck. I have 4 other players I cannot control, therefore they have an impact on the game as well.
