Just came back to this game and I have to admit Riot has gone too soft.

Hello guys,

So i just came back to league after some time and I've noticed a lot of change in this game (literally everything in this game is different and more competitive and that's amazing!) but one thing I have noticed that has changed big time is the customer support of this game. I have to say the customer support is amazing and have always helped me with every thing i needed help with but one thing I've noticed is that this game is way too strict now a days. You cannot trash talk anymore or even say how bad someone is in this game. Now, I do not trash talk (Rarely talk in the game in general) but having some friends being permanently banned from this game because they "Trashed" talk... really? I find that hard to believe knowing that the PC community must have one of the most toxic players out of all consoles and to ban an account PERMANENTLY because of something they said is bizarre. I get there is a lot of players in this game who are sensitive to some comments from what people say, but inst there a feature to mute people? Why can't people use that instead of permanently banning people? I agree to permanently ban someone for inactivity or intentional feeding or cheating (Botting, scripting, and other third party programs to aid people in this game) but to actually ban them for their behavior is too far. This game is a rated T game and to get banned for saying someone is bad is pretty intense lol. Maybe it's just me but I've been called bad before, or been told to uninstall this game and I don't even report them because honestly what is the point of it? The game ends and I do not see them ever again (This game has enough of a population to actually do that). I don't think any other game actually bans people for trash talking (If you played PUBG it's pretty bad lol and dont even get me started with World of Warcraft) so why would Riot go on with this way if they're actually going to lose some customers? Thanks for the read and let me know what do you guys think of Riot's harsh punishment for trash talking or harassment? Am i the only one that have this mentality? Thank you guys!

DISCLAIMER:My grammar is pretty bad so sorry for all you Grammar Nazis out there.

The mute feature hamstrings your gameplay because of lack of ability to communicate, thus making it more punishing for the person who doesn't want to be harassed. I agree trashtalking to an extent is fine, but you should not have to have a lower quality game experience in order to not get flamed.

It's a community. Until you are adult enough to respect other members of that community, you are not welcome to participate.

Also remember that Riot has spent a lot of resources in the past few years trying to make LOL a real ESPORT, not just a popular video game, but a real sport with tradition that could potentially be as long lived and a rich history to one day rival that of traditional sports leagues. One step in that direction and having it become a household thing, is trying to make sure it is not drastically more toxic or less sportsmanlike than traditional sports.

Think of it less as a video game and more as a sport - think of it less as toxicity and more like unsportsmanlike conduct.

And the idea is reform, to instill change. A slap on the wrist does nothing, which is why NFL/NBA players go right back to being dicks after they get fined a few thousand dollars. You have to hit them where it hurts to make them shape up. So, Riot hits your wallet and your hours spent by banning the account.

I understand that muting players ruin the gameplay because of lack of communication but why take away the WHOLE game. You can teach a player to respect other players by making them watch videos of how to become a better player rather then temporary removing them from the game (Let's be real all the banned players in this game create new accounts.) World of Warcraft mutes players for harassment and they're an esport game too. Overwatch is the same thing they're an esport game too and still have players that bring down other players. There's players IN THIS GAME that got PERMANENTLY banned for calling someone "trash". Are you kidding me? Also your analogy to NFL and NBA isn't valid because the main reason why they aren't kicked out of league for being dicks is because they are making money out of them. To me this method does not fix any issue. This community is still toxic as it was since season one lol.

Well maybe RIOT subscribes to the same theory that I do, that punishment actually works, that negative reinforcement of negative behavior can actual result in change.

You do something naughty? Something you don't like is going to happen to you. And it will continue in that manner until you stop doing naughty things. Conditioning.

Let them get strict to clean out the social garbage. Watching a video? Who the fack cares about that or is even actually watching that video and not just laughing at it? Like toxic players are going to watch some public service video and get something out of it?

If you want them to change hit them where it hurts and tell them if they don't like it they can shape their shit up.

Let me give you an example: When my resident hall advisor busted me for drinking in the dorms and I had to go to a meeting with a resident counselor and then do an online course on why underage drinking is bad, it did nothing for me. What DID encourage me to stop drinking is when I got busted by a cop and had to wake my parents up at 1 in the morning with a buzz to tell them I just got driven home by the police and they have to go down there and talk to them, and oh yeah I need a ride by to my car in the morning too. THAT one impacted me.

I mean if you say so. If a person really wants to keep on doing it then regardless they are gonna keep on doing it. If a toxic player gets permanently banned for being toxic and then makes a new account and still becomes toxic, wouldn't it still affect the newer players since you are leveling up from 1-30 again. I'm not saying the punishment doesn't work but since this is just a game I just think that type of punishment is still harsh. Toxic players will be toxic players at the end of the day unless you actually IP ban them. It's a tough subject to talk about but the game was just as fine 4 years ago when the punishment wasn't as harsh as it is now. If you seen some on the perma bans chat logs in some of the discussions around here you can totally see how some of them are, excuse my language please, bullshit. But the end of the day the rules are different and I'm just speaking my mind. Not expecting them to change anything.
