How does ranked work

So, I'm a support main. I admit, not the best one, but if I get a good adc who at least knows how to farm, I generally win lane. Last season, this wasn't always the case... (shout out to Ravenous Hydra Draven). Despite that, I somehow managed to go 3-7 in my provisionals, placing me in Bronze 1. That was last season. This season, I play 8 games as support, and go 4-4. Played 7 Leona games and 1 Thresh game. Depending on the match ups, I could go from 2/7/6 (one of my worst games), or 2/0/16 (one of my best games). My Thresh game wasn't too great. The other 2 provisional games were played top, Where I went 4/2/xx as Mundo and 9/2/xx as Garen. I won those games, and went 6-4 in provisionals. So, I was feeling pretty good, I had won double the ranked games of last time, I was thinking at LEAST I could get into Silver 5 (from which I could probably get to around Silver 2 or so as I'd be able to duo queue with my adc friend). But, I was congratulated upon being placed into Bronze III... can someone tell me how this works? How I won double the games, had like an overall 11-14 k/d as Leona (which I did NOT get last season), but got placed into Bronze III? No, this isn't a qq post or whyamInotinplatinumwtf post, I'm just genuinely confused and would like someone to shed some light on how the ranked system actually works in your placements. Thanks for any help. Phaoryx

A couple facts:

  • The single most important factor during placement matches is the previous season MMR.
  • There's no MMR reset between seasons.
  • The more players are ranked the more inflated ranks become. Finishing your placements later in the season can net you a slightly higher than normal initial placement.
  • At the same time, the system will generally place you 1-2 divisions lower than your MMR.

The starting point for all players is around ~1100 (Silver V/Bronze I). You went 10-15 last season. Your placement matches this season were 6-4, against Bronze opponents.

You are not quite 50% win rate globally, but you are getting there. Your MMR is high for mid-Bronze, your LP gains are most likely on the high side. Keep winning and you'll be out of Bronze in no time.

Did you solo or duo your placement matches? Duoing tends to give lower placements.

If you are actually good it will not be hard to get out of bronze
