You should be able to use quickcast on some abilities and quickcast with indicator on others.

In the in-game options you can choose to set some abilities to normal cast and others to quickcast. For example, on lee sin you might typically use normal cast for most abilities but you could set your ward and w abilities to be quickcast for better ward hops. I always use quickcast with indicator, but for a few abilities (like ward hops on lee sin) I would prefer to have standard quickcast. Currently if you select qucikcast with indicator it forces all abilities that are quickcasted to have the indicator and there is no way for you to set some abilities to have the indicator and others to be standard quickcast. This would be a great little change in my opinion if you could select normal cast, quickcast, or quickcast with indicator for each ability separately.

It USED to be, that if you had quick cast on, it would show the indicator if you held the key, but they changed it with the map update, for who knows what reason, and then they brought it back as a not so good toggle on all or nothing option.

TLDR: No, not anymore.

I already pointed this in a different comment here, but you actually can!

That said, it'd be nice if it were more conveniently placed up with the big QWER keybind stuff

Malignant Vemira1 votes

Yeah, that's not the same, and no where near as easy to change on a per champ bases, or even per state of the game bases. For example, while pre 6 and pre 40 bonus ad on talon, indicator on rake is nice to make sure you dont wiff mana. After an item though, it's not needed. No one wants to dive that deep into the menu on a regular basis. It was better when you could just hold the key with quick cast on for the indicator.

Well, it is the same, it's just not convenient. You can in fact set individual skills to quick cast with indicator as OP wants and as you describe, it being inconvenient doesnt change the fact that it's there.

I dont know why you'd change it mid-game, but there's plenty of time to change it on a per-game basis despite how inconveniently placed it is. Dont get me wrong though, I'd like it to be easier to get at as well, I'm just pointing out that the keybind options do in fact exist to do what OP wants (though maybe not as convenient as they want)

Can't you just go to keybindings, and change them all manually there? Isn't there a tab in there called "Abilities and Summoner Spells" or something for that exact purpose?

The setting for quickcast with indicator just changes all abilities that are quickcast into quickcast w/ indicator, you cant set abilities to both of them.

I think there are separate keybindings for this. You could set q quick cast with range to q + shift and q quick cast to q. Just read through the huge table, it looks like:

Q W E R D F 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 for Normal cast Self cast Quick cast Quickcast with range indicator etc.

He's talking about these keybinds right here.

i.e. You can already do what you're asking for, you just didn't look very hard.

I believe he wants to be able to go into the menu and toggle it. Lets say you're playing Ezreal qw and r you would want to be quick cast with indicator so you can better aim them and judge the distance. While e you would just want it to pop as soon as you pushed the button and not released it. It would work similar to toggling quick cast and click cast.

we should be able to adjust this setting on the fly at the top of the settings.

I agree, it'd be really handy.

I thought I was right. Thanks for the picture.

Unless I'm not understanding, I'm pretty sure this already possible. Sometimes when I play Nidalee I will bind Q to (Quick cast with indicator) and keep all her other abilities (Quick cast)

Just go to settings>hotkeys>abilities and summoner spells(scroll down a little ways its the first option) and in there its has normal keybinds, quick cast keybinds, quick cast with indicator keybinds, an a few other things after. Just go through it and bind how you want all the abilities to be cast.

Changing it every time you play the few champs you use quick cast with indicators can be annoying so I've been practicing use shift QWER for that instead.

You can set some abilities to just quick cast and others to quick cast with indicators friend. I have done it with sej I kept my ult on quick cast with indicator for my ulti and had my q set to just quick cast you just have to do it manually in your key bindings instead of setting everything to one or the other

Goddamn Heretic1 votes

Can you show me the exact place in the settings where this is done?

MonsantoPlanto1 votes

I agree, good post, this issue has been bugging me a lot when I try to play Lee Sin

ericpatt1 votes

Yeah it's not that big of a deal most of the time, but it can be really annoying specifically on lee. Just seems like a simple change they could implement to make it more convenient.

What is the difference between quick cast and quick cast with indicators? I thought it was just visual, is that not true?

angery pout2 votes

You still can enable indicator before using the ability. It's in settings for keybindings.

Quick how to:

  1. Enable quick cast on all abilities.
  2. Go to keybindings.
  3. Set keybinding for normal cast. It can't be just Q for your Q or it changes the quick cast. But shift+Q does work.

Alternatively (like if you only want it for some champions) it's not hard to disable quick cast on some of your abilities before the game. I ALWAYS play Nami with her Q on normal cast instead of quick cast. I used to only play Ahri with normal cast (except for her R since it's impossible to take off quick cast for that ability.)

With a quickcasted ability the ability fires as soon as you press the button, with quickcast with indicators the ability is fired when you release the button. With indicators allows you to hold down the button to see the range of the button without firing, then let go of the key to use the ability. Kind of a mix between quickcast and normal cast, you can see the range but don't have to press the button twice.

sion q can't be casted when quick cast is on really triggers me

Yes it can, you have to hold it...

Some abilities like Karthus' Lay Waste, Yasuo's Steel Tempest, and Vayne's Tumble (which are all Qs) will not have range indicators whether or not you have range indicators turned on. This is by design since their release and I doubt Riot will ever change it to show their ranges. The reason being is that those Qs are super low cooldown and are CORE to the characters gameplay in the perspective that they almost replace the mechanical need to basic attack, just as basic attacks don't inherently show attack ranges UNLESS you use attack move.
