I see one major problem with ranked ARAM but, there's a solution!
The biggest problem is people who make ARAM only accounts so they can get Lux or Varus every game--they would dominate ranked ARAM. Rather than everyone go out and make an ARAM only account so they can compete, I see 3 possible solutions to this problem and I will list them from (in my opinion) least favorable to best:
- Give players with more champions more rolls (a fixed number that resets every game)
- Limit ranked ARAM to players who own ALL of the champions
- Create an ARAM roster system so players can create a customized pool of 40 champs used for ranked ARAM matches
Here are the problems I see with each solution:
- Giving players more rolls doesn't guarantee they won't roll a few worthless ARAM champs in a row--especially if they own ALL of the champions
- Limiting ranked ARAM to people who own ALL of the champions would significantly reduce the number of people who could queue for ranked ARAM
- The ARAM roster system would require Riot add new code and its doubtful they would invest in it
I think the roster system would be best and this is how I envision it:
- Player must have a minimum of 40 champions (can use free champs)
- Player creates a roster of 40 champs that he/she will use in ranked ARAM games
- 10 bans (5 per team)
- Random assignment of champs (no two players can have the same champ--same as now)
- Players on the same team may trade champs during the champ select as long as the champ to be traded is on both players' champion rosters
- No re-rolls
An ARAM roster system for ranked play would allow most players to participate (40 champs isn't that many) and it would keep people with ARAM only accounts from dominating ranked ARAM play. It would also allow for a TON of strategy when queuing with a team.
That's my two cents on ranked ARAM.
