Phantom Dancer Tanks

So was wondering if anyone had thoughts about PD on tanks.

I was on lol hiatus for awhile, came back to find new items and rework items!

Took a close look at PD while playing jinx and noticed its passives would be awsome on a tank!

if you dont know PD passives off the top of your head here they are item 3046

> 1. Unique – Spectral Waltz: Grants Ghost ghosting and +12% movement speed while within 500 units of a visible enemy champion.

> 2. Unique – Lament: Grants 12% damage reduction against the last enemy champion hit (ends after 10 seconds out-of-combat).

Tanks usually have a problem getting in range of enemy carries. The bonus move speed is cool, especailly with deadplate. Also, becoming ghosted is nice too.

When playin a tank the best moments, for me, is when i get right in the middle of enemy team and throw down my cc; much like when u burst down someone as a assasin or mage, when u pick someone off perfectly as a adc.

Finally, when you have that enemy that takes on the tank with all their armor pen magic pen, if you can land an attack on them you get 12% damage reduction.

If u can stack this with a sheild, or a passive ex. alistar ult, and bond of stone 3-6%, u get pretty unkillable.. sometimes lol

I know their are negatives, first cost is alot 2800 gold. secondly, not many/none tanks can use the stats 45% atk speed and 30% crit chance. ** IN SUMMARY ** To my tank mains, would you ever build PD? What would be your ideal situation? Your ideal champ?

I think its pretty cool concept but dont have anyone to really discuss it with XD

Its not bad on Maokai ive seen some use it.

But thats because he can make use of the attackspeed because his base attackspeed is not bad and he can proc his passive which heals him more often in teamfights

Obviously the crit isn't what anyone tank is after but well might aswell use it when slapping carries around no?

The passives are great on anyone who needs extra stickiness. Also the damagereduction works awesome with healing/shielding and health in general.

Given that the damage multiplier is equal to 100/(100+armor), I looked into item 3046 for Rammus late game:

104.5 base armor at level 18 120 armor when Defensive Ball Curl is active 30 item 3047 50 item 3068 50 item 3742 100 item 3075 90 item 3110 65 item 3025 / 60 item 3143 / 60 item 3026

Your armor at most is going to be anywhere from 604.5 - 609.5 without item 3046 which equates to a damage reduction of ~85.805% - 85.905%. With item 3046, you remove that last item (item 3025 / item 3143 / item 3026), lowering your end game armor to 544.5 that reduces incoming damage by ~84.485%. From these numbers, PD gives more SINGLE TARGET defensive power than what is offered by item 3025 / item 3143 / item 3026.

As a Tank main, I have more of a team fight oriented playstyle than as opposed to Assassin mains who try to split push and MAYBE either bait out an enemy target that can kill be solo'd (although Rammus can solo kill many targets once he reaches his item powerspikes). So, end game, I still prefer item 3025 / item 3143 / item 3026 over item 3046. However, in the rare situation where I only have to go in and zone out one target late game while my team wombos behind me which only happens 1 out of every 3-5 games in solo Q, I can see item 3046 being a viable option.

Right now, I think the champions that can use it the best outside of Marksmens are Garen and MasterYi for the dueling prowess.

It's a noob trap.

Definition of noob trap: Something that seems good on paper but is actually inferior to alternatives that do its job in the exact same way.

Armor and magic resist will give you more effective resistances than Phantom Dancer's passive.

I wouldn't recommend it on tanks (except possibly Alistar due to the AD steroid on his ultimate).

However, it does seem nice on autoattack-oriented fighters such as Irelia, Trundle, Nasus, and Hecarim as a third or fourth item. It would be useful on Dr. Mundo too due to the massive AD steroid on his E.

I've actually been meaning to take it on Nasus as a fourth item due to it's synergy with his passive (lifesteal), E (armor pen), and ultimate (bonus AD). 50% crit chance and 60% attack speed would provide a lot of damage and sustain in longer fights and it would be quite useful for split-pushing/dueling.

Aatrox Chogath Darius DrMundo Garen Gnar Malphite Maokai Nautilus RekSai Skarner Shen TahmKench Thresh Trundle Volibear

A good amount surprisingly. Only a few can make use of the Critical Chance, but majority could use the extra stick and then use the main thing a Tank wants, Damage Reduction. A note that it can be hard to use for some of these champions since it is the last champion hit and, therefore, their AoE can make that difficult to control. Unless I am wrong and it only applies on basic attacks upon which ignore this.

Another note that some of these champions are likely more Bruiser than Tank, but I wanted to put anyone who could be considered on the upper side of Tankiness when they have items and such.

Critmaster Garen1/11/2016, 9:53:25 AM2 votes

tanks, no. MIGHT work on some bruisers. like lets say you get it on voli and build 4 bruiser items to go with it. dead mans plate, titanic hydra, steraks, spirit visage.

its pretty broken on certain adc though. vayne with a phantom dancer is impossible to fight.

Honestly after you were full build it would be the single biggest damage reduction you could buy in an item vs an adc, but you could also get death's dance on most tanky guys and make more use of it.

Garen isn't a tank but I can see it on him. It would replace the Infinity Edge slot I feel which depending on the person is better or worse. But It helps with being tanky (12% when you are chasing down someone actually is kinda big, say when an ADC hits 400s, that is like 45 damage removed each hit) and other 2 stats are helpful but nothing insane.

I have actually built this on Shyvana though and it works pretty damn well. More MS is always nice, damage reduction is beautiful, and she actually makes use of AS and crit. AS means longer W(passive damage and MS) and making more use of her E. Crit can actually work with her Q so its already scary seeing her Q while she can do %max health damage, imagine when the Q crits? It isn't pretty. Ive actually 1 shot an ADC before from that. Crit Q under E effects smacking for about 1.5k, exploded a poor Vayne. I was more surprised then they were lol.

I could see Dancer working on Rammus due to his armor -> AD scaling.

Would make him a lot softer to everyone he isn't attacking, though.

EndlessSorcerer2/7/2016, 7:03:56 PM1 votes

Question: Are you actually referring to tanks or do you mean autoattack-oriented fighters?

I can see it working on Irelia (after Trinity Force and Sterak's Gage) and Trundle (after Titanic Hydra and Sterak's Gage), but not an actual tank.

Edit: Oh wow. I didn't even check the date of the last post since it was on the front of the boards anyways. I can see my old post from a month ago.

MavenSong1/11/2016, 12:24:59 PM1 votes

Tank crit Garen lol (ive never done crit garen for clarity)

HxC Manickmonkey1/11/2016, 4:23:12 PM1 votes

i build it on Garen from time to time agreed with it being useful on bruisers but find that nassors tooth works best on ap bruisers (i play alot of aram lots of room to mess around with builds)

Phantom dancer is monstrous on a Trundle

Hmm, that gives me some ideas to science!

NavyDivea2/7/2016, 6:53:19 PM1 votes

I only find it useful on Yi, even then its only when I go mid with him.
