It would be cool if Ekko's ult had a rewinding mechanic.

You would hold R and rewind in time until you let go of R. Of course it would be over a certain amount of time. Lets say you started walking from wolves to blue buff, when you make it to blue buff you press and hold R, you then start rewinding (moving backwards) until you pick a spot in between wolves and blue. I think it would allow for more play making potential and overall a more fun ability to use.

It'd be cool, but you have to remember this is a multiplayer game, and it needs to be balanced.

There are single player games fully centered and tailored around this mechanic, try Prince of Persia sands of time.

Also, think of the bugs this would create, THE BUGS! I'm not even sure Azir is completely bug-free by now, and all his motiff is summoning soldier to poke enemies.
