Support Main - Should I Change to Climb?

I've only been playing the game a little over a year. I find that I'm much better at playing hook champs and tanks (support main). I feel that, because of this, I will have a much harder time climbing in ranked. I should preface that I started playing ranked as soon as I hit 30 and didn't have a great understanding at the time. Because of this, I was placed in Bronze (rightly deserved). I feel that I play at a much higher level now, generally have a solid k/d/a when playing support (I know that isn't everything) and I believe I have a good concept of macro.

My question is this: should I try playing mid, top, or jg where champs are much stronger and have a bigger impact on the game (i.e. the ability to carry) and transition back to support if I'm able to make it to gold OR am I just not good enough? Is it possible to make it all the way up the ladder as a support main and I'm just not good enough at them yet?

Jungle or Top is the way to go if you like tanky CC champs. I suggest jungle just because the map awareness and enemy jungle tracking skills will help you when you return to the support role (if you still wish to do so after playing jungle! ;) ).

Another alternative, if you wish to continue to hone your support skills is to just main a mage "support" while at lower ranks. That way, you can still somewhat carry the game even from support if needed.

umm in bronze u should be fine

i personally climbed out of bronze season very early 7 as support Morgana on a 16 game win streak, but that was in an entirely different meta where it was much easier to climb as support.. and morg wasn't in as bad as spot as she in now. and has been over a year ago.

and yes people as crazy as it sounds with you all thinking "morg is a meta pick" she is a LOT weaker than she used to be ever since the horrendous change and hotfix (but not revert) in 7.24 morg has been a LOT weaker as she lost all lane sustain

she also lost the ability to proc item 3310 up to three times with 1 W if they stood in it for 1.5 seconds.

she also lost ruby sightstone which was core for item cdr and she lost item 3312 .

soo yeah...

MUCH weaker now.

only thing is most other support got hit more than she did until the last patch with the + healing and shielding nerf.

Supports are decent for carrying games, regardless of the elo. Yeah I understand in bronze sometimes your team doesn't do that great, but its not like the opposing team is that great either. You said you like hook supports. Try picking up Pyke, he's super good for carrying games; assassinating key targets, peeling for your fed carries, good roaming potential, etc. Oh, and its okay to take kills on Pyke (with your ultimate), so you can definitely single-handedly carry a team. Trust.

If you honestly think you are playing at a much higher level than both your team and your enemies, play a carry in the jungle (Triforce Vi and Xin Zhao, Assassin Wukong and Lee Sin, AD Bruiser Jarvan IV). Gank successfully, stick around for the tower. Help losing lanes. Make good calls in general. If people don't listen (to your good calls) you can just take kills and take matters into your own hands.

You did say you liked tank, but tank jungles relies too heavily on your team being together and doing decently. Can't really split push or dive enemies alone as a tank. In bronze people tend to not stick together, so getting picks is a good way to grab objectives.
