Will ARAM ever truly be ARAM?

HorseProofBacon·6/18/2016, 7:56:19 PM·64 votes·3,306 views

Right now it's just a bunch of accounts that have all the best ARAM champs. Not true aram as players are likely to get somebody that is good in ARAM. This consists of seeing the same 30-40 champs in aram team comps every match.

I've been saying for YEARS there is a VERY.SIMPLE.SOLUTION. Make all champs available for ARAM only. Bam, problem solved. No more "ARAM only accounts" no more exploiting the use of only the best ARAM champs and you'll have true ARAM team comps. Why is Rito so slow in implementing this obvious solution?

In before the exploiters down vote.

Unlock all champions, make it so that you can't earn mastery unless you own the champion. Now they will have an incentive to start buying them.

ARAM is fine with my 118 champions . Sometimes i do get champions i don't want to play But hey it is All random after all ..................

PowerSmoker6/19/2016, 3:59:15 AM6 votes

I wouldn't mind Riot unlocking all champions for ARAM , that actually would solve the problem with smurf accounts like the person who commented on my reply below . But it could also add salt to the mix of players who spent money but hey it's not like their account is not usable , instead its fair all across the board . I could be wrong as well :)

I agree, making all champions available on ARAM seems to be the only solution to prevent ARAM-only accounts

dapositiveviking6/19/2016, 3:30:29 AM5 votes

it cant be truly ARAM until the add two other lanes to the map that you cant go to. its all mid, not all only option lane

HorseProofBacon6/18/2016, 8:04:54 PM5 votes

For those that still play ARAM that is.

GaleWinUnleashed6/19/2016, 5:40:07 PM4 votes

Those accounts really ruin the spirit of ARAM. It's RANDOM. Hilariously stupid team comps are going to happen, play it out and see what happens.

No. Id much rather not get a champion i

  1. Have no practice with due to not owning said champion

  2. Did not buy specifically because i dislike the playstyle of said champion or dont want to play said champion

No,every game must have atleast one cancer like varus and lux

Athenes Lulu6/18/2016, 9:53:02 PM3 votes

When the "make all champs available" thing happens, then yes.

Though that idea's been passed around for a long while now.

So for players who haven't bought champions, ARAM is just no longer a terribly viable mode if they don't want to play, say, Udyr or Mordekaiser?

The problem is that this solution hurts players who are interested in ARAM and don't like certain champions they haven't bought.

Unlock all champions, and we players who are content to play the game in quiet will be listening to every player bitch about how they don't own Shyvana or Nocturne, but have to play them now.

I really don't see this problem as often as everyone suggests it is one, though if I did, I'm not sure this would be my solution either. It's too extreme and disregards what is arguably a large portion of ARAM's playerbase.

A more suitable solution would be to pick a handful of champions who are 'ARAM frees' between hot picks and cold picks, so that free week + the ARAM frees gives some balance. Assuming you have about 30 champions who are 'core hot picks,' if you will, substantiating that between 10 (free week) and an additional 7-10 (for ARAM frees) would probably do just as well while being a healthy compromise.

Why the need for the large-scale, sweeping solution? Doesn't it dawn on anyone that this will also harm players who are just trying to play some ARAM for what it is, with their meager selections of champs?

But that's the thing- ARAM was never "All Random All Mid" to mean "Pick from the entire champion pool." It meant, "Everyone pick random, everyone go mid". You still had your champion pool to random from. That was the old fan-mode. Current ARAM still has this process because that's what the old mode had. If you want all champions unlocked in order to be "fair" then fine and dandy- but people need to stop going with the mentality that the current ARAM isn't "real" ARAM. ARAM never required the full champion pool to be used.

As for my view on the matter- Riot can't win. If they force you to choose from all champions- they lose- fans will possibly be forced to play champions they hate- which is why said fans haven't bought them. If they keep it the same- there are ARAM only accounts- which guarantees they'll have a better chance to get a good champion. So, lose if they do, lose if they don't.

I think I know why Rito is so greedy with full champion pool in ARAM.

I've seen thousands.. tens of thousands of smurfs. Lots of them had some skins. Which implies they bought champions with skins in bundles. I even had unpleasand encounter with smurf saying it takes about 30$ to make almost ready smurf account for ARAM (last step is leveling).

Which means easy money for Riot for allowing for game mode abuse.

Yeah I agree, it sucks the life outta me to play 4 games and I play against 3 lux/3 sona/2 jhins, etc etc... I know the moment i break down and make an aram only account they'll make this change, its really frustrating though cause I do enjoy most champs in aram they just get neutered when you go up against a lux/morg combo... I hope they make this change it would breathe some life into the game, what really is annoying is it seems like on the occasion my friends and I do get a dream team someone on the enemy team dodges, like somehow they knew we had a dream team... We rarely dodge and its never because we don't like our team, its because maybe someone just logged in or we had to take care of something real quick. Sucks though, the game mode is really not even fun anymore with cooldown streamlined and summoner spell cds reduced, it just makes the OP champs more OP.

ValyrianBlade6/19/2016, 6:14:10 PM2 votes

I play ARAM occasionally. I'm definitely not an ARAM main. I've bought a few champions explicitly because they're cheap and good in ARAM, but I definitely play on Summoner's rift 90+% of the time and own most of the champions I own because I play them on the Rift.

And when I play ARAM, when I get a champion I own I typically do quite well. When I get a champion on free rotation, or a champion I bought early on because I thought they looked cool and it turns out I didn't like them so I never play them, well I do terribly in those games. I often feed pretty badly, or even if I play safe I just do no damage or make bad engages, etc...

So now you want to open the whole roster to me? I own like 50 champions. I play maybe 30 of them reasonably. Suddenly there's now 100 champions I'm screwed if I get, rather than just 20. No thanks - that's a surefire way to make me never set foot in an ARAM game again.

I think most people would agree.

Riot could increase the number of champions you need to own to play ARAM. They could make certain beginner champs ALWAYS available in ARAM. But please don't make everyone available. Some champions are mechanically insanely hard to play even if you play them, let alone are brand new to them. Imbalance would wreck havoc.

Aram is just a gathering of bots now that dominion is gone

KINGWOLF596/19/2016, 5:38:32 PM2 votes

They still have to use the champs from the weekly rotation. So it's not always just the champions they want to use...

DevlinCrow6/20/2016, 9:19:47 AM1 votes

This isn't fair for players who play ARAM but don't have all champs, I like earnings keys for doing well regardless of the champ..

These "OP" champs are strong but they're not undefeatable, a lot of players will be forced to use champs they don't want or like, just so you don't have to face champs you can't beat.

Really selfish and unfair tbh :/

HorseProofBacon6/22/2016, 11:16:43 PM1 votes

Despite the predictably ragey pre-pubescent child posts, there have been some interesting solutions here.

Adonna6/20/2016, 4:17:07 AM1 votes

not going to lie - if this went through, I'd quit LoL. Already quit ranked due to DQ and I just play ARAM now on my fav champs. My fav champs aren't all op (OP ADC LEONA muther...no) but that is what I have on my ARAM account: champs I like to play. Some are great in ARAM, others not so much.
