new player question about the shop and runes

Hello everyone, I just started playing recently and I noticed that certain items disappear if you buy one that takes priority over it. However theres alot of items and sometimes i get confused not knowing which ones take priority over which, how do you guys know? I play as soraka and i use these items in order of being bought: ancient coin, dorans shield, ardent censor, mikaels crucible, talisman of ascension, rabadons deathcap. Are there any other items i can buy without switching one of my previous bought items? I like to buy stuff that helps me buff and heal my teammates and offers lots of cooldown and mana regen. Health regen would be nice too but i cant find any of that. also on my runes i bought a quintessences, but i cant find where to place it in the runemap? theres only marks seals and gylphs available

Quintessences are the large hexagons that are "off to the side" of the curve. If you are level 10, you should be able to use one of them.

Regarding the shop - what you're describing is probably the build path of certain items. For example, to get Ardent Censer item 3504 , you need to combine Forbidden Idol item 3114 and Aether Wisp item 3113 along with 650g. To get Forbidden Idol you need to combine 2 Faerie Charms item 1004 and 240g, and to get Aether Wisp, you need to combine an Amplifying Tome item 1052 with 415g. The reason for using these component pieces is to allow you to use your gold on less expensive items first, which you eventually upgrade to the stronger items.

As for which items you should purchase, you should try to look up some Guides for the champion you are playing. http://www.lolking.net/guides/list.php?champion=soraka This is one of the sites you can use. It will give you a recommended item build and usually tell you the order which you should try getting them.

Your Rune slots will unlock as you level up your Summoner (not Champion in-game). The first Quintessence slot should unlock at Lv10.

I'm a bit confused by this. I'm wondering if by "disappear" you mean that they build into another item. Like item 3028 builds into Mikhael's so disappears when you buy the mikhaels.
