A big problem with some of the designs of Riots champions is the. Land one line skill shot and get a huge benefit for doing it, usually when the skillshot is along the lines of other skill shots that are far less rewarding. What I think needs to happen to make this whole Vessel thing feel good and fair and be as rewarding as it needs to be for achieving is add more skill checks for it to happen. First Illaoi should have to land the E but the second skill check should be killing the targets soul. Because currently she is getting immediate benefit as well for taking the soul out and transfering damage to the main target. thats alot more power then deserved for just landing the E. Short version: E no longer damages tethered target, instead killing the soul now stuns the tethered target for 2.5-3 seconds (needs to be super powerful for a 2 step process skill check) and makes them a vessel. The damage would come then after because wherever they are stunned any nearby tentacles and the tentacles she spawns will now attack the stunned target and deal a chunk of damage. Difference is its after killing the soul instead of while killing it.

Edit: Could also then have it too that if you E a already vessel that you now start transferring damage through to the tethered target but only if they were a vessel prior.

are they still removing the timer reduction on her e when she takes damage? because thats a fucking terrible idea.

instead they should make her tentacles visible, but not targetable in bushes and fog of war without direct vision so ranged champions dont get to get free removals on them, while melee champions have to step out from behind the minion wave to do the same and put themselves into position to get hit by her e.

the only reason why they did this, was because illaois strength is tied to her tentacles around, and riot thought its not fair for her opponents not to know how many she has and where she has them. (this was the official statement back then). but for that information, you dont need to be able to kill them without direct vision.

they could just use the red shadows theyre using for sweeper effects.

You want to give Illaoi hard CC? Are you crazy? Killing the spirit is not hard if you have half a brain and stand next to a tentacle before you E. If she could stun you, there'd be no point in trying to fight her over the spirit. If you stay, she destroys you and you can't run away.

What they need to do is give the spirit a shield based on Illaoi's missing health (this shield wouldn't transfer damage), and have the timer reduction be based on dealing a percentage of Illapi's current health (not number of hits).

For example, if Illaoi is almost dead, the spirit would have a fat shield before Illaoi could even start transferring damage, and a scratch to Illaoi would get rid of the spirit.

This means that if you poke her out, she has a much harder time actually killing the spirit in time or dealing good damage to it, so she can't sit back in safety for free damage unless she's very healthy. She's be weaker against champions that can outrange her, and would be encouraged to build more health/defenses to make her E more effective.

People should be encouraged to fight Illaoi, to test their mettle against her and take their spirit back when she takes it. They shouldn't just run away from her and wait to reset.

Its like you dont play Illaoi.

If she didnt get damage from the Spirit she would never win any fights.

Also if you think hitting E is too ez then you are under Gold because anyone in Gold+ knows how to you know dodge and it is SOOOO slow that ANYONE can dodge it.

Also her animations are CRAZY slow and makes even her Q hard to hit if the enemy has a dash. (GG top lane vs Qiyara)

What Riot needs to do is fix all the Bugs with her kit (there are tons and they added more in this change they are doing)

If they go with the 60% AP on her Passive they need to add a AP% on her W too.

The issue is that her Kit is too predictable for anyone over Gold.
