Recent Player Loss?
As I'm browsing the net or lurking in the forums, I've noticed a trend of people complaining about Riot's choices for League. I don't think anything is wrong with League. I truly believe that "us" as players are honestly one of three things:
- Interested in Something Else
- Tired of Toxicity
- Scared and/or Frustrated
-
I honestly don't need to address the first one. That's a personal preference.
-
I can say that League does have some pretty toxic players in our midst. However, what game doesn't have a ton of bitter apples to deal with? But its incredible unfair to blame Riot for their toxicity.
What I don't agree with is blaming the new queues. The new queue has been a blessing! No longer must I attempt to call a role only for someone to get rather angry and force your hand due to selection. While it does still happen now and then, it is no where near the amount it used to. So chalk it up to improvement.
What I think would be BEST to ask for is a better method for reporting players.
If you are teamed up with a 4-man pre-made of toxic hell and they want to report you for doing poorly, I think its fair to ask that we can get a review. My random ideas: Maybe it gives you a sign that says you've been reported but ONLY if you're reported 3+. This way if you feel its unjust you can petition it. (Only issue I can think of is a drastic delay in these reviews) Dunno how it works, but hat toss.
Overall, I believe you can't blame Riot for flamers. But moving on because of Toxicity is all fine and dandy.
- I honestly believe players can't accept the changes League has gone through. I've seen several posts where Riot should "dumb down the mechanics", "there are too many OP champs", and "there isn't enough variety to counter play". Heck even people I enjoy playing with are saying things similar. HOWEVER, I would like to formally say STOP.
What you're asking from Riot is to stagnate. If that was the case, players would drop this game harder than a bad habit.
League has evolved. It has to in order to survive. Any game that stops moving forward in some fashion wouldn't make it for very long. I've been around since late Season 1 - Early Season 2 and in my opinion I believe League just takes more skill than it used to. For a variety of players that's frustrating.
Let me just say: THAT'S OKAY.
Its okay if you think the mechanics are getting complex. Just realize complexity is GOOD. With time and a little effort you WILL figure it out. TRUST ME.
There aren't really "OP champions" (besides old Jax Dodge Master Flex and Broken Black Cleaver Week, Rageblade and .... yeah I'll stop here lol) But after some tweaking from Riot's Dev team it comes down to skill. I'm actually pretty tired of hearing Zed and Yasuo are such an easy broken champions. [ For others that can't believe it, YES I've READ this] Zed and Yasuo are by no means an easy champs to play. If they are caught with CC they are probably dead if they can't finesse their way out. I don't think there's a champ that's a BIG issue right now or at least I can't think of one as I'm writing to you all.
What I DO believe is that we want to be great players without effort. I'm sure a lot of us have seen the Pros and wanted to be as good as they are. We forget they have to work to be amazing. Even in my experience I have to learn what all the champions do and even the new ones. I had to learn my boundaries. I'm still learning to this day. I can't play a bruiser to save my life because I'm not USED to taking damage. I'm easing into it. Slowly albeit, but surely.
I'm by no means an amazing player. I'm a smack in the face average one, so the "competitive high rank" argument won't work with me. This is my opinion about what I've seen.
And for those complaining about buying champions.... we all have to do it. If you spend money to purchase a champion it was your CHOICE and lack of patience. Not saying not to the marketing in lack of patience and I got my skins [ a lot of em lol ], but again it takes TIME.
In SHORT: I believe the players don't like it when being good takes TIME. We're impatient and want to be good NOW. The complexity that we're seeing makes the time it takes to get to Plat or Diamond or whatever longer. On the other hand, we don't like how "difficult" the game feels. Difficulty varies as I'm sure what I think its hard may be different from my friend or anyone who reads this. [ Funny story, I can't play Garen. But hey , you need a mediocre Zed I'm on it! lol] I think we as players are freaking out just because we don't like change.
Feel free to give your discussion for and against it. Open dialogue solves a lot of problems.
