What's the point of splitpush?

So the basic concept is to be alone in a side lane pushing towers, while your team keeps the enemy team busy mid not letting them engage 4v5.

To do that you need to be a little bit ahead to 1v1 or 1v2 in case the enemy team sends someone to stop you. Seems like a pretty basic and decent strategy, huh?

However, the problem starts when they send one person to sit under a turret you're trying to take. That person has to be just a little bit tanky, and preferably have some cc, so you can't dive them. At this point the enemy team traded off a much weaker member of their team than you, while still denying you the ability to take turrets, while being able to easily win 4v4.

So again, what's the point of splitpush in higher elo where people do the mentioned above instead of dying to the splitpusher one by one?

Split pushing allows 2 plans to happen at once.

  1. The player with TP split pushes further than halfway bottom lane, to threaten tower kills for global gold and potential inhibitor for super minions. Bottom lane is the farthest lane from Baron pit, therefore anyone who is sent to bottom lane WITHOUT teleport will have to path to Baron in the event a fight breaks out, whereas the split pusher may use TP to join Baron pit in a near instant.

  2. If the player with TP whose team is at Baron pit secures Baron buff, whether they win or lose, Baron empowered minions will help him push to inhibitor.

Either situation can pressure the opponents into a lose-lose situation unless the split pusher is matched with teleport split pusher which then puts both teams in equal footing.

Although the split pusher doesn't necessarily need to have TP. The split pusher can be someone that achieve two things:

  1. The split pusher has fast and efficient wave clear (basically anyone with Tiamat or low/no resource abilities)
  2. The split pusher can 1v1 anyone on the enemy team, thus having to draw 2 or more players to detract them from fighting at Baron pit. Like an Assassin like Zed, duelists like Fiora and Jax, Juggernauts like Garen, Darius, Mordekaiser.

Overall the plan is supposed to be a safe way to win games. But common mistakes I've seen is that

  1. Teams will start fights without their split pusher making it halfway, thus not allow a big wave to form up and push on their own
  2. They send the worst split pusher to split push, or maybe they read the map wrong and thought their ADC was split pushing. You never want your ADC split pushing.
  3. Split pushing top lane if your team is trying to take baron, or split pushing bottom lane when your team is trying to take drake.
  4. Split pusher backs when they see 1 or 2 people in lane. Split pushers need to remain a threat. If enemies pursue a split pusher then that's a signal for the split pushers team to take another objective. The worst thing the team can do is just let their split pusher die without equaling out the gold through baron, drake, or towers.

There is no point in splitpushing below masters.

Players ability to play league has degenerated massively these last few years due to riots push on the 5v5 aram deathball meta.

People literally cannot play around sidelanes and it tilts me to oblivion how no one focuses on sidelanes at all. Would make closing out games so much easier. The worst is when you already opened midlane inhib and your team with baron will keep walking down midlane ????

Then like one of my recent games i just walk down bot t 2 for 30 seconds to push out the wave to take the enemies ability (who has baron) to just rotate from mid to bot to take another inhib (long before they start sieging mid mind you) and it's like my team has been waiting for me to hit the first minion suddenly they run in 4v5 all die horribly and we lose the game with comments like " GG REPORT HECA FARMING BOT LANE LUUUUL SO SMART" and i can't say anything without getting permabanned again. The stupidity of this line pouring out of his **************

Also riot removed the viability of splitpush since baron is so overpowered, baron empowered recall, homeguards and more importantly towers not giving any significant global gold anymore. U used to if you smash top to get your team back in gold by providing global gold through turret push the 20 gold they give no is so insignificant.

Your best bet is to just run it down with your team and hope it works out if you are below masters.

If the every team can send one person under a tower that can infinitely clear and is tsnky enough with cc time not be dived, something has gone seriously wrong...

I'm going to use me as an example.

In most of my games, if the enemy sends two to kill me, I'm going to get at least one kill and stay alive. If the enemy sends three, I'll die but will probably still get a kill. While I am spending one person to handle two or three, my team should be pushing with their advantage. Of course, the keyword in all of that is "should". Without coordination, splitpushing is pointless. While the enemy sends two or three to handle me, the teams I generally get just farm the jungle or circlejerk at their own tower. Once I'm dead, the enemy team will have the advantage until I rez and get back to pressuring the enemy base.

Pressuring multiple lanes. If majority of your team pushes mid lane and you push top lane. If they send 3 players to kill you. your should fight mid lane.

If it's only 1v1 or 2v2 the game would be way too short. It's still too short to me even now with the 5v5 match.
