Hey everyone my name is Lolmart and I'm a former Cassiopeia main and current Diamond player.

My Mobafire Guide

Needless to say I know this champ inside and out and I want to discuss the changes that Riot [announced yesterday] (http://boards.pbe.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/champions-gameplay-feedback/NmQ44cEA-cassiopeia-texture-and-gameplay-update)

I consider Cassiopeia the Urgot of midlane in terms of Niche-ness, Unique playstyle, and play rate. Even though I love Cass, I always ask myself the same question; Why play her?

THE GOOD

  • Lane bully
  • High damage
  • Massive CC/damage AoE Ultimate
  • Battlefield control

THE BAD

  • Traditional Mage. Mana cost increase per rank (Q, W, E)
  • Limited defensive countermeasures
  • Difficult to land Ultimate

THE UGLY

  • Linear playstyle with Sion-ish predictability, limited spell dynamics and interactions
  • Missed Q/W+E Combo = Massive dps loss (especially in teamfight)
  • CDR utilization is inefficient
  • Ultimate has limited functionality at close range (if target is inside your hitbox, likely to miss completely)

##Throwing ideas out there...

  1. http://imgur.com/7vvKGp8.jpeg For a 10 Difficulty champ... this is lackluster. SOLUTION: If enemy unit stands in Miasma(W) for X seconds, Y happens. If Petrifying Gaze(R) hits a poisoned target applies X stacks of Passive.

  2. http://imgur.com/a/kjSGm Cass should have 20/20 vision and a wider angle of view at close range for her ult, including units inside her hitbox (at least the damage and slow)

  3. Feel free to contribute...

TL;DR ###More interaction from spells (think Yasuo and Skarner) Passive is a decent start. Damage numbers are NERFED and need to be reverted. Mana management needs different approach. Fix the cone ultimate at close range.

Reserving judgement on the overall damage potential with the changes, given the E reset relaibility is not something you can convey with text or numbers. But it's clear that Riot wants her damage to come almost exclusively from her E. Assuming her E comes out making up for the lost damage on Q and W, the other changes have me feeling kind of underwhelmed.

The Riot posts discussing her PBE changes explicitly mentions pushing Q and W more towards utility purposes than damage ones, with the vast majority of her damage coming from E. If this is the case, given how much damage Q and W have lost, I don't feel the utility aspects have been amped enough, following that vision.

Her existing Q gives a movespeed amp of 15% to 25% with rank. PBE Q gives 10% to 30% with rank. In addition to losing damage, having a longer cooldown and casting delay, you lose 5% movespeed early and only gain 5% late. I'd think, with the new vision of Q being less about damage and more about making sure she can deal her damage, that the rank 5 number should be more like 50% movespeed. Nerf her base movespeed some if you have to, but the underlying point is that her Q is her primary way of keeping up with, or getting away from, her current target. She herself is immobile, and occupies a lane where common picks have 2 to 3 in-kit movement abilities. She needs this if we're going to see her become relevant, regardless of the new E DPS. Alternatively, have the movespeed scale with her AP by some ratio. I know that typically, this kind of scaling is only given to Supports. But then again, Kayle has it on the movespeed from her pitiful heal, and in any event is never played as a Support anyway.

Her existing W slows those afflicted by 15% to 35% with rank. PBE W slows for 15% to 45% with rank. In exchange for an extra 10% slow at max ranks, she has almost double the cooldown, haf the damage, and 1/3rd less damage from AP. Um... Not worth. Let's be honest here. The only reason someone is going to be standing in your W for more than 1 second is if they are stunned or rooted. This means that, at most, you are getting 2 seconds of damage/slow out of Miasma. That is incredibly silly.

Miasma should work more like Viktor's Gravity Field. For each second you are inside it, you get a stack. Each stack does damage and slows for a small %. Then, when you move out of it, the stacks fall off 1 at a time. What the damage would look like in that setup, I'm not really sure, given the vision of E being the majority of her damage. The slow, however, however, should be something like 6% to 9% per stack at rank 5, up to 5 stacks. Maybe higher, I don't know.

[Edit] After writing this, I see the PBE W now starts at 25% instead of 15%, meaning that in exchange for all she's giving up on W, she's gaining 10% across the board on the slow. Trade still not worth. [/Edit]

I think this might be a technical limitations issue. I do kind of have to agree, her ult has a really odd area of effect given what is actually happening with it. But it would seem that it's really hard for Riot to do funky shaped hitboxes. Considering Diana's Q is the only one, and there were a lot of "complaints" from the devs once she was finally revealed about how difficult it was to make that work, and how there are still to this day things that they can't do with it... I don't see hope for a more appropriately shaped AoE for Petrifying Gaze. We may be stuck choosing between a cone and a rectangle for it.

Couldn't agree more. Underwhelming is the perfect word to describe the lower damage on Q, W, R even with the new passive.

Honestly, the one thing I hate the most about her is how even her items and playstyles are dictated.

Like, how does the early game plays... You farm and trade. If you're gonna kill a minion, you should try to poison him first for passive stacks (and thus extra APs). If your E is up, you should also last hit with E, since it'll refill your mana. Then you also have to harass/trade. So if the enemy is not poisoned, you should try poisoning it; if he is, yo uwill want to E it. So TL;DR, in lane if something you wanna hit is not poisoned, you poison it, then E, no matter what it is or why you're hitting. The only case where this is not true is when you're low on mana, wanna harass and have no kill potential, then you may choose to harass with AAs only (but you'Re probably beter just trying to hit him + minions with poison).

Later in the game, you have the fighting case, where if something is in range for E, you should kite it and posion it and hit E. If nothing is in range, you should get in range of something, poison it and E. There's also the other times where you're not fighting... so if there's something in your range, you poison it then E, if not you get into range of whatever is safe to attack. Only difference with teamfights is that it now also gives you HPs.

In terms of items, it's pretty simple... Your passive stacks multiplicatively with Rabadon and the %mastery, so you will want both, always. then, depending on what you want, you'll have a few choices. If you want damage, you're better to go for APs, obviously. If you want survivability, RoA/Zhonya/Abyssal are good picks, otherwise you pick AP, since your E heals you based on APs. If you want utility, you'll simply take APs, since it'll allow you to kill people faster and you can already rely on slow+speed to kite around.

In short, the only viable build is a shitton of APs since the only thing your kit scales off of are APs, and it scales everywhere, including APs (when your APs scale with your APs, you know that something's wrong) .

In term of role, you'll want a shitton of APs asap, so your only real option is mid. Top will get you butting heads against a tank, support means that you don't have access to APs and that you're constantly oom until you finally get a tear (which means a delayed sightstone), it also means that you don't pose as much of a threat making your extended presence on the front line much more dangerous, ADc is a no-go and you can hardly stack your passive in the jungle.

I tried her a few games, trying different builds and playtyles/roles, but honestly... I don't think that there's a single choice in her kit right now.

Couldn't agree more. Just makes her even less flexible with items than she already is.

I was under the impression that GhostCrawler was not involved in LoL.
