Why do mastery 6 and 7 cost BE?

Just a thought that I'm sure many others have had, why do the higher levels of champion mastery cost BE/IP?

With the whole goal of the mastery system being to reward players for being skilled with certain champions, it doesn't really make sense that obtaining m7 and m6 would require ingame currency. I personally have a few tokens that I would like to forge, but 3250 for m6 is just absurd; it's more expensive than chromas were in the essence emporium, as well as several champions.

I know that this isn' t an issue for players with a ton of BE stashed away, but the idea of paying for a merit of skill just seems a little backwards to me. If there is a reason that the system works this way, then I would be grateful if someone would enlighten me.

And, for the sake of my curiousity, how much IP/BE do you think you've spent on m6 and m7 over the years?

It's ALWAYS been that way, even before removal of IP

Buying champ shards before the update = Spending flat BE now

The difference that bothers me is that prior to the change you were usually able to get all the required BE from one champ shard, which was 1700 IP. Now they've nearly doubled that.

I believe those prices are new with the recent update. It used to cost something like 300 BE for M6, and 500 BE for M7 or something like that. I didn't mind those prices, but I agree that 3250 and 3500 is pretty absurd.

It was 500IP and 600IP actually. They were multiplied by 6.5 times to reach the current 3250 and 3900 prices.

Yes... hence the "used to cost something like". My apologies I don't remember the exact numbers.

It was still BE, but back then the only way to get it was through chests and champ shards, so you would effectively have to burn your IP on champ shards, opposed to champions. I wonder how riot decided on that multiplier though.

I use to not really care, i had a ton of IP and could just buy BE when ever i needed it, i played for 3 years so i didn't really care. Before that change I got 14 level 6s(7k BE) and 4 level 7s(4400 BE) But then the BE change came in. I was sitting at over 80K BE, so i thought BE was much easier to get, i just spent almost all of it, Now i'm struggling to get by with BE these days

I dont mind that mastery 6-7 cost BE, but having to spend more than 3k BE just show a mastery while you get shit RNG champ shards and values from level chests for as little as 90 BE is just plain lame. I can see having to spend at least 1000 BE and 1500 for mastery 6 and 7 respectively.

Yes, I agree completely.

I'm following you. Paying for an achievement is the opposite we could think of it. Instead they could make missions for it when we grabbed enough shards. Like winning 10 game with the champ or just doing XXX kills in 1 game or assists for support etc.

Yeah, I agree with you. Simply paying seems very detached, and missions definately seem like a better alternative.

Save your champ shards to get mastery 6 and 7. That's what I do. It's the only redeeming factor to champ capsules.

Other than that, mastery has always cost BE/IP in the past.

I'm aware that they always have, I'm just questioning why they do.

As for the champ shards, that is a decent idea.
