Autofill is the very epitome of cancer

Artificial Idiot··14 votes·3,545 views

Riot, I have a complaint about the autofill system. I want to know why you created this system and how does this make the game better? I have lost so many ranked games because of this. I do not understand what you want us to do when we get autofilled. Dodge? We lose LP when we dodge, and we have to wait. How is this fizing your game. As far as it seems it is making the game less enjoyable for everyone. I would by far wrather wait an extra few minutes to get the role I WANT, opposed to a unfun game. This just ruins the idea of teamwork when you can't play your role. I really hope you will take this into concideration. Jason

ok well a lil history for ya chicken little...

back prior to season 6 we had what was known as "pick order' you all randomly got put in champ selection... the 1st pick got to ban all 3 bans... and each side took turns picking as we do now... there was no role selection prior to accepting game as their is now.. and based on what order you were put in in champ select is how you got preference of role... say if you were 1st pick you got to chose what ever role and champ you wanted... 2nd pick gets to pick from whats left... 3rd and so on...

now when it got down to where the one side picks 4 and 5 they had to be civil and let one pick before the other or talk and ask what role the preferred out of whats left and on the side where last pick picked by himself got forced to fill whatever role was left for him

this is how it worked for all seasons prior to season 6... meaning being forced to fill was still a thing and every one had to do it... and back then you were expected to be able to play at least one champ in each role...

90% of the time the last pick was forced to be a support. and this before trinkets and sighstone so actually had to use your slots for actual wards and they cost gold, 75gold for green and 100 maybe 125 for pink wards ? i cant remember the cost exactly.

so this was the system most of people honored and lived by... there were trolls and it created toxicity.

but based on this system what roles do you think got picked 1st most of the time? yes thats right MID and TOP so most were forced to jungle before jungle was cool or support.

autofill will not go anywhere... learn to accept it... learn to play more then one role and one champ and all of league and the player base will be better for it...

back prior to season 6 we had what was known as "pick order&#x27

I don't remember the season(s), but we once had the ability to choose the exact role and exact champion we wanted and we were 100% GUARANTEED to get what we chose.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo3 votes

well team builder gave you that in season 5 but team builder had the longest queue times basically cuz people got to try and pick all the wonky bullshit ideas they wanted like donger jungle or whatever and part of the reason queue times were so long if you didnt like the team you were with you could "abandon " the game at no penalty .. they dynamic queue with role selection as it now came about in season 6 ... which did away with team builder

it is so you don't have insanely long que times. If no one get auto filled then every game needs to find someone that actually asked for support for every game. Since few people actually que for support it creats a huge bottelneck.

Artificial Idiot1 votes

yeah and that will be much easier to win the rank game

It has gone a long way. But as far as I know, the only thing I see auto fill is here for is que times. Those were the days I was just starting the game, now I have 900 games. But I do not think autofill is worth que times.

well in season 6 before autofill was started (really bad in higher elo) people were waiting 8+ 10+ 30+ mins for a game to be made cuz no one wanted to play support or whatever role every one queued for mid top and jungle and due to this and the complaints riot released autofill .

See, I find autofill quite fun only because it allows me to test out my overall skill in the game and not in just one niche area. The people who bitch about being autofilled probably aren't used to having things not go their way, and/or haven't heard of the whole idea of making lemonade out of lemons.

Mandatory autofill not existing doesn't prevent you from playing other roles.

We don't play ranked to test things out. We play ranked to win. If you want to try your skins and new roles go play norms. You calling the pros bad. There is a reason they have their roles. It's because they are good at that.

Miror B2 votes

The hilarious thing is that these "pros" are also good at other lanes, and don't need to focus on one of them solely to climb. Faker's a high-tier jungler who from what I can understand has a 70% winrate on lee sin in solo queue, Apdo was known for boosting accounts to challenger while playing all the roles. Even Hai was able to effectively play three roles in competitive. I'll say it before and I'll say it again: the people who complain and bitch about being autofilled are the same people who will aggressively spam the same 2-3 characters day after day with zero understanding at all about how the other lanes work.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

you mean good players can be good in all aspects of the game? [zombie-brand-mindblown]

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

Miror B1 votes

To be fair, autofill is kinda a touchey subject, much like talk of yasuo/anything that's slightly annoying. One could probably make a topic on here titled "I hate lane bullies and autofill" and garner like 5000 upvotes just off of that, even if the post made no sense at all.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

that is what is so funny about this community... i didnt advocate for or against it just explained it

But they still have their best roles, in this is what they play in competitions.

Miror B1 votes

Yet we're talking about a sub group of like 4,000 people (if we include all regions+ challenger tiers). Whose to say that a person complaining about autofill on here isn't secretly a god-tier off-role player who just refuses to play that. For all we know that person could be the next aphromoo, who might I remind you started as an ADC.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

just a question? how many champs are lvl 7 mastery? and what rank are you currently and what was your highest rank ?

Funkin Dunkin1 votes

I have 12, what tier does that put me in?

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

is not about tier... you are missing my point.

Funkin Dunkin1 votes

There is no point. It doesn't matter if you have 3 lvl 7's or 100. The 1 trick pro's are where they are because they use 1-3 champions so exclusively that they are stupid good with them. Then there are a jack of all trades that know a lot about many but aren't at the pro level. Then there are people who just play this casually who don't care about mastery. That's the point I was making.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

Even one tricks have more then one level 7 mastery. My point to the person i asked the question to is that playing more roles and champions increases your game knowledge. And you should be able to play at least one champ in each role. My 3 best roles are support, top tank ( maokai) main, and jungle. I can adc i have 4 adcs at lvl 7 or 6. And i can do ok mid, its my worst role i dont play it ever. Use to seasons 4/5 but when i play i dont care if im autofilled cuz i know enough champs to get by on.

You are missing my point. There is no purpose in autofill. I think, at the very least we should be able to choose if we want autofill enabled or not. I don't care if they have multiple champions. I'm not one trick, I get it. I main two lanes, and do not know any other champions outside that lane. Because PERSONALLY, I think it is a waste of time for a safeguard. That's why I think autofill should be optional for people who have the same opinion as me. It's not hard, and I'm not trying to start World War III here.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

so if you think if people got to chose auto fill on or off any one would ever chose to have it on ?

Yes, but then we have the people who do take this game seriously, that's what I'm talking about.

I hate the system too, but seriously if you dont know how to play every role at the game and do atleast an average job at it you should be playing normals not ranked.

Personally, I do not think to play more than two roles is good for you skills. You must learn one thing or another. Maybe this is true for high elo. Though you need to build muscle memory and actually LEARN the role. You should learn a bunch of champions, this is true. But this is for totally different reasons. You play what you are good at because I suck at support. This is because I am an aggressive player. That's just me. There are always roles you can and can not play. WHEN YOU PUT DECENT WITH GOOD, GOOD WILL COME OUT FIRST.

and? my worst role is adc but I'm still better than average at it because I've practiced it enough to be good enough at it when I get autofilled to it. you need to know every role inside out, especially jungle/support since those roles are much much different than the others.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illusory_superiority?oldformat=true I'm not trying to argue. Honestly. PERSONALLY, I think you could have spent all that time on your best 2 roles. Where you could actually hit a higher elo, oppose to having a safeguard for autofill. It is a much better use of time to improve than to learn something new, because what are you going to climb with? Your own role.

I hate autofill as much as the next guy and I think it should be optional (so if higher elo people want faster queue times they should be able to enable it) but while its here if you get autofilled and dont know how to play a role thats no ones fault but yours.

That's what we call "Bronze". We all have good games and we all have bad games. Like this weekend I have had 1 or 2 awful games. But yeah, bronze is awful, I hate it. I am stuck in here because people are stubborn, they flame, and they give up. :/

I just got auto filled into the AD role. I don't own any AD champions other than Urgot for top lane. I asked my team if anyone would switch. No one answered. Then our top decided to flame post game. Autofill brings the best out of every one just so we don't have to wait 2 minutes.

other games don't have nearly the amount of players league does and they don't use auto-fill. The entire idea is stupid hey man i know you didn't like waiting for 5 minutes for that 30 minute game that was fun so here's a 120 second queue that is shit quality and lasts 25 mins. so whiles you are in game for 25 minutes you are actually still in the queue for a real match so queue goes from 5 minutes to 25 minutes+ especially if you get another auto filled player the next game that is bad now its 50mins + for a real game how exactly does this work its just fake numbers to make you feel good.
One thing that they should 100% do is remove auto-fill for ranked your suppose to play your best here but how can you if its a toss up to see who got shafted by auto-fill more?

Ilkish1 votes

I agree. I've lost plenty of games cause of autofill, Im a top mainer and then get support and i can't dodge or do anything but actually pick a support and when i do my team flames me for being bad... Whilst i can't play support cause i think its cancer [sg-ahri-1]
