Ripost should'nt block AOE, it makes no sense!

Thoughts for dynamic improvement. Fiora ripost should'nt block AoE abilities such as Amu R, Cho Q etc. It makes no sense considering the dynamics of the skill, and if Riot wants it to block everything as it does, it should be called something else and update its animation. In its current form it should only work against direct skills ass Braum E.

Honestly I find it weird that it can block anything she isn't facing.

Yea this should be an obvious counterplay

Gameplay trumps logic.

Nami can use Boots and heal Brand with water. It makes no sense. But if we had to change every skill so that it makes sense, the situation would be worse.

it depends on what she is blocking. she has to be facing missiles in order to blocked them with riposte. spells like ignite and AOE spells like Amumu's R have no travel direction and happen within an area instantly. because Fiora's riposte only blocks skills from in front of her and technically a portion of the spell was in front, she gets to block it.

As a person who has eaten an Ashe arrow as Fiora due to throwing Riposte the wrong way, it does at least have counter play in that it doesn't work like Yasuo Winds of Obliteration and just destroy anything that even considers touching it.

so in truth, it doesnt actually block anything she isnt facing as long as the missile/spell/whatever doesnt reach a portion of the riposte hitbox.

dynamic improvement.

ive never heared someone call a nerf like that.

this would create more issues than the ones in your head that it would solve.

if youd do this alone, it would trash fiora completely. so what are you going to do for the inevitable compensation buff to soften the blow? put more power into the rest of her kit? it would have to be quite a lot to keep her a functional champion.

which means she would become incredibly stronger against anyone who cant abuse this weakness and stomps everyone who isnt loaded with aoe, while being completely useless against the likes of Annie or teams with tanks, divers and mages with aoe cc/damage abilities Sejuani Anivia Chogath Gnar Hecarim.

do you decrease the cooldown of riposte overall? same issue.

overall, fiora isnt overpowered right now. shes a decent pick, and actually in a perfect spot balance wise. but not even close to Ahri in terms of reliability. i think the main issue people have with her and why they feel it frustrating to fight her, is the knowledge barrier around her mini game. there are small mechanics attached to it, that mostly those people who play her know and know to abuse than the people playing against her. but that doesnt make her imbalanced or overpowered.

Uh, Riot literally calls some nerfs "adjust" in their own patch promo videos so maybe it's time for something new?

theyre usually calling nerfs for what they are.

when they say "adjust", they nerf an ability on one end and buff it at another end. like reduced early damage and increased late damage. or decrease scalings, but increase base values etc..

plus, the word "dynamic" makes literally zero fuckin sense here XD

there is nothing dynamic about it.

I disagree with your assessment of Fiora's power level but this is a great explanation of why the OP's suggestion is a terrible idea.

fiora has overall 10% play rate, 52% winrate and peaks out at 55% winrate for experienced players. new players to the champion have 45% winrate on fiora.

meanwhile ahri with 20% play rate, 54% winrate and peaks out at 57% winrate. and has 50% winrate for new players to the champion.

the difference between beeing a good pick and being overtuned imo.

remember that fiora is supposed to be a carry. so when she snowballs, she can really take over games. but its no different than Vayne KogMaw Twitch

only that i still feel more confident fighting a fed fiora than fighting a fed vayne personally.

She's not in a perfect spot

She's not in a perfect spot

based on what? objectively shes not overtuned. the fact that she can carry games, means shes working, not that she needs nerfs.

none of her solo que stats look out of place. i couldnt care less what happens in tournaments. its a whole different world, that we dont even have to deal with in our games.

like ive played against fiora more than once recently, and i can understand that at times it can be frustrating to fight her. on the other hand ive also learned a lot about her vital mechanic, how to deal with it and her ult, and i havent lost lane or a game to a fiora in quite a while.

and in the end, i still feel fiora is easier to deal with in a teamfight scenario than most marksmen.

she has to fight in melee range with one single defensive mechanism. and thats on a 15 second cooldown even around midgame. if you play around it and get past it, shes toast.

bruiser fiora was a problem. the current glass cannon build is working as intended.

if there is still a problem, i feel like its more with specific items like item 3026 which is downright cancer.

What would it even block then? I mean, don't get me wrong, as a Riven OTP this would be great, but wtf is even left?

Arcus Diabolus2 votes

Under that logic, Jax dodging and Fizz's hops shouldn't allow someone to dodge AOE either.

junglerboy162 votes

Jax dodge doesn't block AoE, just AAs with slight damage reduction for AoE.

Fizz becomes untargetable, so that makes sense (his whole schtick is that's he's a nimble slippery bastard that's hard to pin down).

deadlychuck1 votes

It doesn't make sense that it even blocks more than 1 thing...

Meliodäs1 votes

Well, it's bullshit that it can block even ignite

Critmaster Garen4 votes

ignite is instantaneous. if she blocked it, you ignited her during the riposte animation, which makes it entirely your fault tbh. same for other summoners.

Succubús GF1 votes

I have had a fiora riposte my ignite as i was doing it, but to clarify it still shouldnt be a "mechanic" it just doesnt really make sense

then its a lucky coincidence, or unlucky depending on the perspective. either she predicted the ignite, which is almost impossible to pull off, or she was parrying another ability and you hit ignite at the same time.

either way, its a rare interaction that isnt gamebreaking.

I don't think they have the resources to differentiate between aoe and more linear skillshots

Sinlaire1 votes

they do and it does, roughly. anything that touches the riposte hitbox gets destroyed. if struck in the back she is still hit. AOE spells are all wiped out becuase it happens in an area around her and that always means a portion of it strikes the forward facing hitbox of the riposte.

go custom game with a buddy and pick anyone that has a skillshot that doesnt strike through like Ez and Draven ult and all of them should strike her in the back even if she is in riposte.

Uh, no, if she's struck in the back it is still blocked. Also it's not the entire rectangular parry/riposte hitbox that "destroys" things. It's just what hits Fiora herself. It can block anything that "attacks" (maybe a better word is affects) Fiora except tower shots

awdaf1 votes

You mean, it isn't realistic if Ziggs throws his mega atomic bomb at her and she parrys it? You don't think she built an anti-missle system before it hit and shot it down so it does nothing? Noob.

Considering she can block:

Light, an entire galaxy, JUSTICE, poison, and time being stopped, she ain't got time for logic.

(also, braum e is his shield, unless you meant to put as and not ass.)

Joxcab1 votes

What the fuck is this garbage ass suggestion?

You are asking to trash one of the whole points of Riposte.

AL0001 votes

It also blocks pan's ult... not cool

Weiner the Pooh1 votes

I look at it as the skill animation being a summary of what happens, for little things she deflects it then counter attacks(the stun/slow) on bigger things(such as aoe) she dodges then counter attacks. The over all animation is just a simplified version of that because there is no way they could code the other way, too many situations and the one they went with was the easiest and got their point across of what the champ is doing.
