I need advice on how to play

So ive just been wondering to myself how do i really play this game? Because i almost have no effect every single match. i can be fed but at mid game or late game i just kinda fall off... and I have no ideas why. Im always buying the correct items and such but i just seem to fall off out of nowhere for some reason, so im just trying to wonder what i do wrong. for instance i was playing top lane irelia against an aatrox and i went 3/0 against him for about the first 10 minutes in. But for some reason after that i just fell off and he could kill me instantly even if i dodged all his aoe's and things. Like. What happened? how did i go from being fed to being worthless in mere seconds? did i build an item wrong? Did am i maxing the wrong abilites? Like i just really need to understand how this game works lol. This happens to me almost every game and im just trying to understand why so i can improve

It could be you are not pressing your advantages while you are ahead. Also having 3 kills up on your opponent is great but doesn't necessarily mean you will be ahead in gold. If your CS'ing poorly and your opponent is up a ton of CS, has turret plates, or global gold. Then you could actually be behind your opponent in gold even though you have 3 kills up. There are a lot of factors. What rank are you?

Yeah thats what ive been thinking. Cs and stuff but i was really ahead on that too. i just dont understand. since you know its very easy to farm with irelia just spamming q and aatrox missed alot of waves due to his 3 deaths. Idk man ik im doing something wrong but idk what it is. I dont play ranked but if i do im normally silver.

My best guess for your example is that he got something like Death's Dance or Sterak's and all your damage suddenly gets delayed and he has enough healing through his passive and DD to out heal your initial burst. The only way to deal with something like that is to get a healing cut, but even that might not be enough depending on if he got kills from other people in the game.

For stuff like item builds, runes, etc, just check out sites like Champion.gg or U.gg and they'll give you an idea of what items to build. Now, you need to know what are your core items and what are situational items. I don't play the champion, but I know most Irelia's have Trinity Force, Titanic Hydra, and Steraks.

So if you are against an Aatrox, buy an early Executioners after Tri, Tiamat, and boots so that when he completes his Death's Dance you'll still be able to deal with him. Alternatively, if their team has a lot of AD auto attackers, Bramble Vest and Tabi might be good instead as it would become your armor item and reduces his healing while he's fighting you.

Honestly, if you bought Executioners every game, you probably would be fine due to so many champions having a heal in their kit or buy lifesteal, spell vamp items, or take Conquer as a rune. The number of games where they have a Vlad, Mundo, and Soraka yet no one on my team has healing cut baffles me. Obviously Executioners wouldn't be good if you were fighting a Nautilus top or a Teemo, but against most fighters it has a purpose.
