Why did Riot destroy something they worked two years to perfect? Auto-fill must go

I've had nothing but bad experiences with League this new season and it's mostly due to auto-fill. I loved how last season, whether it was normal or ranked mode, I ALWAYS got my first or second choice of lane. I didn't mind that queue times were sometimes five minutes, it was worth it to me, especially in ranked, to play the role I was best at and had the most experience in. I'm a graduate student so I don't have a lot of time to play anymore and I play at most two games at a time. last season, I got my primary role 70% of the time. Now I get it about 30% of the time. What happened? Riot spent so much time and effort with Team Builder, eventually implementing role selection into the main draft modes, and now all that hard work is gone? Suddenly instead of getting my first or second choice, I get my last choice constantly? Not only that, but I can't even queue for a normal game and get the role I want anymore. Take last night as an example:

I queue for Top and Jungle. I get support. I really, really want to dodge and try to get my main but I don't want to be a dick or break the system so I suck it up and stay support. I play 35 minutes of a game that I don't really have fun in, can't communicate to with my lane partner (a critical part of bot lane), and overall just have a bad time. I queue up for another game and this is what happens:

I get my main role. Whoo-hoo! ... someone dodges. New game, I get my main role again! ... but someone dodges. New game, I get my main role again! ... but someone dodges. New game, I get my main role again! We almost make it to the end of champion select, just two more people to go, but someone dodges. New game! ... I no longer have my main role but my secondary role.

I don't think I've seen one intelligent response from the people who are for auto-fill... their only "productive" responses are to "stop whining" or "don't be a dick and dodge." Well, I played by the rules and still got burned. This is the first time in all my years of playing League that I've felt like quitting just because it isn't fun anymore. I was fine waiting five minutes for a game where I got the role I wanted. I'm not okay waiting two minutes, thirty seconds for a game I don't want to play at all. You can ignore the player base and claim auto-fill is fine but we'll see how many people get fed up and stop playing because the game is no longer fun for them. What I simply can't fathom is why Riot spent so much time and energy making the perfect system, only to completely scrap it?

Its a necessity with 3 full time ranked queues. The difference last year is all we had was Dynamic Queue. Now we have 3 full time ranked queues plus the normal queues going at once. With the playerbase being pulled apart into that many queues, we need it. Comparing last season to this one isn't apples to apples.

Last year the majority of the playerbase HATED DQ. Riot met us in the middle by giving us both queues, but autofill was the result

I do hate autofill, seems like queue times haven't even changed with it too

It exists because of Flex (dynamic) que. A complete failure that Riot still holds on to for some reason.

Exact same scenario as top laner, but if I get my secondary role... someone dodges too. This repeats with me getting first or second role until I get placed as support... in where miraculously no one dodges... and the match is a loss as the mid laner or top laner go afk, dc, or troll.
